Jonas, orange you wearing my Sunday outfit?

Tuning into the Sunday telecast of the final round of the Barclays, you might have thought you were seeing double.

Rickie Fowler, long a proponent of wearing orange on Sundays (a homage to his alma mater Oklahoma State), appeared on the first tee clad head-to-toe in the color. His playing partner and fellow Cobra-Puma Golf staffer, Jonas Blixt, followed suit, or more specifically, followed orange.

And it wasn’t just any Puma golf attire that Blixt had squeezed into (emphasis on squeezed): It was Rickie Fowler’s. Reportedly, Blixt had been planning to wear wearing a Fowler-style Sunday outfit this year were he to ever find himself paired with the stalwart of the flat bill.

Blixt and Fowler found out they’d be playing together Saturday night following the third round. Unfortunately, the late notice didn’t give sponsor Puma enough time to mail an outfit to the Swede. So, the 5-foot 10-inch 164-pound Blixt squeezed into the 5-foot 9-inch 150-pound Fowler’s spare orange Sunday outfit.

Even better, Fowler’s tee ball bounded into Blixt’s, coming to rest only inches away. Apparently, the two were intent on not only wearing the same attire, but playing from the same spots, as well.

Of course, the buried lead in all of the this is, “Bully for Puma golf.” The Kering-owned sportswear and apparel company is the recipient of a ton of free press as a result of this stunt.

Maybe it was the tighter clothes, or perhaps Jonas Blixt has an aversion to sun-like tones. Whatever the case, after opening with a birdie, the Swede was an atrocious 12-over his next 10 holes.

Blixt finished with a 10-over 81, sliding 52 places down the leading board into a tie for 58th. I think it’s safe to say that we won’t see Jonas dressed like a carrot on Sunday again any time soon.

If I were getting paid by a sponsor I would wear whatever asked (in reason). After all, that’s what pays the bills….pro golfers today unfortunately not to your taste, are lucky to have endorsements and look like a NASCAR driver, because unless ur lucky enough to win one tourney, which will prob cover your expenses for the following season, the sport wouldn’t be possible for the majority of pros walking around as a human billboard that actually pays the bills, and allows them to compete. I would think save for a few, it would be next to impossible to even play the game professionally with the expenses if you didn’t have an endorsement, or partial.

But I will say, I don’t and won’t rock a titey hat on the course. There not paying to dress me, or for my membership, so a hat of MY choice will do fine. I will wear one off the course repping something in my bag, guess I like getting the knod of a common bond other titleist players and I share while walking through Home Depot.

Blixt and Fowler looked gaudy and ridiculous. Looking at them, it’s hard to imagine that golf was once considered a gentleman’s game, and the participants actually wore suits and ties. Is it possible that, someday, pro golfers will actually look like NASCAR drivers – walking neon signs with ads all over their clothing?
