Moore beats Woodland on 1st playoff hole

While Gary Woodland and Ryan Moore could not have been elated about the 12-hour delay to their playoff for the CIMB Classic, they were certainly grateful for the opportunity to play at least one more hole for the title. And, after a long day at the weather-impacted office, the opportunity to rest before going back on the course was welcomed.
“It is a little bit of a blur right now because today was so crazy with the weather on and off,” Moore said. “And I think we’re both pretty happy we just got done at this point. To come back tomorrow for a play-off is not the worst thing ever. I’m just happy to be in it.”
Woodland echoed Moore’s sentiments.
“Changing a flight is not the end of the world, to come back and have a play-off tomorrow,” he said. “Excited about that, and should be a fun day tomorrow.”
Unfortunately for one of them, the day would be all-too-brief.
In the playoff, the long-hitting Woodland teed off first with an iron and found the fairway. Moore followed with a driver from the tee and also reached the short grass. No. 18, a par-5 of 634 yards and wet from the week’s rain, was unreachable for both participants. Moore kept his ball in the fairway with his lay-up, while Woodland missed in the first cut of rough. When Moore stuffed his third shot inside 5 feet, the pressure returned squarely to the broad shoulders of Woodland. The Kansan was unable to respond, missing just a little short and right with his wedge.
Facing a 20-foot chip for birdie, Woodland’s chip had the line but not the pace. It came up just short, opening a door that was promptly closed by Ryan Moore, who buried his short birdie putt for the win.
With the victory, Moore earned $1.3 million of the $7 million purse and moved to 2nd position in the 2014 FedEx Cup chase. Woodland moved into 5th position in the year-long race for FedEx Cup with his runner-up finish.
Jimmy Walker maintained his spot atop the 2014 FedEx Cup standings, three tournaments into the young tour season. The Texan rebounded from a desultory 74 on Thursday and closed with three consecutive rounds in the 60s to claim 6th place in the competition. Charles Howell III tied for 7th with Harris English and Graham Delaet, and moved into the top 10 in the FedEx Cup standings

Craig,
Have you seen Woodland hit the ball? There’s no such thing as unreachable any more, given the proper conditions. These lads annihilate the golf ball.
