Hype Central: A week in the life of Tiger Woods

What a week it has been in the life of Tiger Woods. Or has it?
Depending on who you talk to, Tiger’s chipping woes will either force the 14-time major champion to quit game entirely (as soon as tomorrow!), or they’re an almost nonexistent hurdle that he will easily leap on the way to dominating the 2015 Masters.
The truth is that Woods’ short game is certainly short of PGA Tour standards at the moment, and while it was painful to watch at the Hero World Challenge and the Waste Management Phoenix Open, it’s not the end of his career. Back injuries might be, but that’s a different story.
Woods may or may not currently have the short game yips, and if he doesn’t, we hope that he hasn’t been on Twitter — actually the entire golf internet — and hasn’t been watching Golf Channel this week.
Here’s a list of most overhyped Tiger moments of the week we’ve seen.
Tiger blades a chip, then chips one in
Tiger bladed a short chip shot on his opening hole at the Farmers Insurance Open.
But then he did this on the next hole.

Tiger shanks a chip in practice
Tiger’s career was pronounced dead during a foggy range session at Torrey Pines in preparation for the Farmers Insurance Open. Golf fans and Tiger haters used Twitter to write 140 character eulogies in response to this Vine.
The truth is, Tiger is known to get off to lazy starts with his practice sessions, and that’s all this was. If you watch closely, it looks more like a bladed shot than a shank. But let’s never let the truth get in the way of a viral Vine.
Tiger takes advice from everyone on Tour
Tweeples and golf news outlets latched on to a few photos from Tiger’s range session on Wednesday, spinning a narrative that Tiger’s was seeking advice from anyone and everyone who was willing to help him or Torrey Pines.

This article from Bleacher Report questioned why Tiger was soliciting advice from Pat Perez, who’s known “more for his temper tantrums than his short game.”
Perez later came to Tiger’s defense.
Don’t believe the hype? What hype, Pat?
Phil Mickelson also came to Tiger’s defense, saying Tiger’s short game will improve and he will ultimately have the “last laugh.” Lefty knows a thing or two about the short game, so we’ll take his word for it.
Freddy’s good vibes lift Tiger’s spirit

Fred Couples, who walked with Tiger during his Wednesday Pro-Am, told Tiger “You’re fine,” according to Golf Channel’s website.
Maybe he can’t fix Tiger’s release pattern, but Freddy has such a laid back attitude toward golf and life in general, he could seemingly cure any mental flaw — say, the chipping yips?
Doubtful.
Tiger chips like Shaq shoots free throws
On Wednesday, an article was published on Golf Channel’s website with comments from Tiger’s twice-removed swing coach Hank Haney. He broke down Tiger’s “chipping yips,” saying the issue “isn’t going away,” and empathized when speaking of his own yips, saying “I never felt super, super confident over the ball.”
The story also offered insight from renowned golf psychologist Dr. Gio Valiente on how to overcome the yips, and referenced Shaquille O’Neal’s problems shooting free throws and Chuck Knoblauch’s trouble throwing to first base.
Tiger has played one tournament in 2015, so to compare Shaq’s laughable and lifelong struggles on the charity strip to Tiger’s short game is… well, more than a stretch.

Tiger dropped a Marshawn Lynch reference — “I’m just here so I don’t get fined” — after his second-round 82 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, which was out of character for one of golf’s most predictable interviewees.
Was this proof that Tiger doesn’t care anymore, or is the 39-year-old lightening up for the back nine of his career?
Our take? Neither. Comic misdirection was simply the best way for an always-calculating Woods to shift the tone of the conversation.
This article will be updated with more overhyped story Tiger story lines throughout the week.

Just Shows how swing gurus can hurt a back, and from there there is no way to go.
Seve had a bad back and he played his swing to stay fit, until some guru come in.

Another WD, I am not really a fan but this is just sad.
It reminds me of my hero Seve at the end of his career playing, watching the old maestro was painful.
