Jason Day will wear Nike in 2017… and still loves his other sponsors

Published

‘Tis the season for new sponsorship announcements and equipment switches. And No. 1-ranked golfer in the world Jason Day just went ahead and covered all his bases in one Instagram post. He made public what most in the golf space privately suspected: He’ll be switching to Nike shoes and apparel in 2017 AND he gave a shout-out to all his existing sponsors.

Here’s the post from shortly after midnight.

Now we’ve seen great corporate athletes in the past, but combining all your sponsors in one glossy photograph? That’s efficiency. Makes you imagine Michael Jordan eating a Big Mac and drinking a Gatorade in a pair of Hanes, reclined with his Nike shoe-laden feet crossed.

Day’s switch from Adidas to Nike was first reported by ESPN’s Darren Rovell in September. Rovell reported that the contract was worth approximately $10 million per year. Eight days later, TaylorMade announced that it had re-signed Day to a multi-year contract to use its golf clubs and golf balls, but not the shoes and apparel of its parent company, Adidas.

Day’s agreement with Nike covers footwear, apparel, headwear and gloves. Day will first wear Nike this week at the Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Hawaii, according to the company.

“Joining Nike is a dream come true,” Day said in a Nike press release. “The brand is synonymous with the world’s best athletes. I’m honored and can’t wait to be part of the team and working closely with Nike to take my game, and the sport of golf, to even higher levels.”

Nike released this video on social media to announce its partnership with Day.

Personally I think he is slumming it … I mean, two Lexus and a jet – who doesn’t have those. If Nike wants him to relate to the everyday person then Jason really has to up his game and not present stuff that everyone had back in high school after their 1st summer job. Total gutter trash – not classy at all!

its ‘you’re welcome’ as in you are welcome. there is nothing possessive about Your welcome, you idiot. Good job on insulting someone for doing something then proceeding on to do the exact same thing

I was being sardonic. Hence the smiley face after my intentional mistake. I was pointing out how he used it wrong twice in one post…but you’re most definitely welcome.
