Check out these 2 eco-friendly products from the 2020 PGA Merchandise Show
Eco-friendly is in. From dish soap to clothing, being more environmentally conscious is better for everyone, and when it comes to golf—a sport that is played outside on natural surfaces in changing climates—we are starting to see more and more companies adopt this approach when it comes to creating products.
Golf courses have been in on the action for years now to reduce the impacts on water systems as well as helping reduce overall costs through smart initiatives and the use of fertilizer.
At the 2020 PGA Merchandise Show, several companies in different spaces of golf debuted products that are both helping golfers play better and helping the environment at the same time. These are those products and the stories behind them.
True Linkswear Eco-Knit
True has been at the forefront of revolutionizing golf footwear since its original True Tour shoe over a decade ago brought zero drop and extra-wide “natural motion” toe boxes to the industry. True has a seriously dedicated following that allows them to be nimble and innovative while also keeping their core customers locked in with stylish performance golf footwear that can be worn on and off the course.
The new True Eco-Knit builds off the success of the original True Knit by offering a comfortable casual golf shoe that is made from PET Plastic. Each pair uses enough recycled material to eliminate approximately 8 water bottles from landfills. Not only is the shoe eco-friendly but so is the packaging, just like how the True Major offers an all-weather shoe bag that can take on many other forms of use the ECO-Knit is packaged in a reuseable cotton shoe bag that can carry everything from the shoes to your lunch.

ACCRA Golf i-Series Steel with Eco-Satin Finish
This all-new steel golf shaft from Canadian based Accra Golf is a winner on many fronts—even before we get to the environmentally friendly part. Known for its graphite shaft designs, the new Accra i-Series is their first step back into the steel shaft market in over a decade. It must be noted that Accra was purchased by True Sports (parent company of True Temper) in mid-2019.
Here’s the eco-friendly part: Traditional steel shafts are plated in nickel and then followed with a layer of chromium (chrome) to give the shaft shine and luster, and well as being rust-resistant. Although a chrome finish looks great (on everything from motorcycle tailpipes to golf shafts) the process to get the result involves a lot of chemicals and is by no means environmentally friendly. Thanks to the help of parent company True Temper, Accra has developed the Eco-Satin finish that is just as corrosion-resistant as chrome but involves way fewer chemicals and produces a lot less waste.
With global companies becoming more environmentally conscious, and consumer demand for products to help reduce the impact on the planet at an all-time high, we should continue to see this trend grow in the golf industry into the foreseeable future. These are just two examples in the golf consumer space of how small choices can lead to bigger changes.

4. Ping G440 Max: 6.86%
Ping’s pitch: “The most forgiving G440 model, MAX has a hotter face to generate speed and distance, and a lighter overall system weight with a longer shaft (46″) for faster clubhead speed, higher launch and longer carries. 3. Ping G440 LST: 9.53%
Ping’s pitch: “LST is an especially good fit for faster swings, offering less spin and more control with a penetrating trajectory. A hotter face, lighter overall system weight and longer shaft (46″) deliver more speed and distance while maintaining tight dispersion.”
@phizzy30: “Not a fan of Ping drivers in general, but 440 LST takes the cake. It’s super forgiving across the face for a low spin head, looks and sounds good and the ability to make it play neutral or slightly fade biased through the hosel settings is very appealing.”

2. Titleist GT3: 16.55%

@mrmikeac: “I’ve been Anti-Titleist for years and years and years (outside of Vokey, of course). With that being said, HOLY BEGEEZUS the GT3 driver is an absolute NUCLEAR MONSTER! This thing blew my G430 10K Max out of the water in every single category. Forgiveness is the biggest thing that stands out of me, the 3 model has always been one of the less forgiving models in the past but this GT3 can take bad shot after bad shot and still end up in the fairway, I think a ton of that has to do with the adjustability, it’s actually effective. Feel and sound is perfect, that solid crack is so addicting to hear and when you hit it out the screws this thing can absolutely bomb it. Titleist, I’m sorry for doubting you. You have converted me.”
