Shriners Open Tour Truck Report: New Titleist Pro V1 seeding, Morikawa in P7MC, Prototype PXG irons

Published

on

Here’s what I’m hearing from my sources inside the trucks at TPC Summerlin.

Titleist

Jimmy Walker had a new Titleist TSi3 (9 degree, 45 inches, D5) built with a Fujikura Ventus Blue 7 X and was hitting a personal best 185 MPH ball speed in Foresight (normalized). The new driver was head weighted (hot melt placement) a bit differently and the weight setting in the back was moved to the draw setting.

In prep for Augusta, plenty of fresh wedges built by Aaron Dill…

Pro V1/X ball seeding in progress with Charley Hoffman, Greg Chalmers, Cameron Tringale, and Rory Sabbatini. All putting them in play straight away. More info in our report for PGATour.com.

Callaway

Adam Hadwin switched into a Mavrik Sub Zero 10.5 degree with a Mitsubishi Chemical Diamana DF 70 TX shaft.

Si Woo Kim made a number of shaft changes to the top of his bag going into a new Mavrik Sub Zero Driver (Triple Diamond) 9 degrees, Fujikura Ventus Blue 6 X shaft. Mavrik Sub Zero 3-wood. 15 degrees with a Fujikura Ventus Blue 7 X shaft, and a Mavrik Sub Zero 5-wood. 18 degrees with Ventus Blue 8 X.

TaylorMade

Collin Morikawa is now playing a full set of TaylorMade’s new P7MC irons with True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 shafts. Morikawa finally ditched his trusty muscle back P730’s that he won the PGA with and has been in since college.

Jason Day put a set of P7MB irons (4-PW) coming out of his highly modified P760’s. The new irons are armed with True Temper X7 shafts and come out to a degree stronger in loft than TM standard and D3 swing weight. No further modifications were made for Day who in the past required tungsten plugs in his P760’s.

Oddly enough, Morikawa and Day swapped chairs from an iron profile perspective

In addition, Day added a P790 3-iron that took the place of his SIM Max 5-wood.

Ping

Cameron Champ regripped his entire set switching from the Lamkin UTX to Golf Pride’s Tour Velvet Align. Champ also switched driver shafts again going from his trusty Fujikura Pro White Tour Spec 63 X back into the Project X HZURDUS “Hulk”.

  • Driver: Ping G410 LST (9.5 degrees, flat+, CG shifter in neutral, 5g face, 5g toe weight)
    Shaft: Project X HZRDUS Smoke Green 70G-6.5 TX (44.25″, tipped 1.5″, D4)

Gear head icon KJ Choi made the ultimate switch this week as he went from the super game improvement Ping G410’s into the forged muscle back Blueprint irons w/ KBS Tour 120 S shafts. That’s like going from an aircraft carrier to a Porsche 911.

PXG

Wyndham Clark has put a prototype set of 0211FB (4-9) in the bag equipped with Nippon Pro3 Modus 130X shafts.

And on the European Tour…

…TSi is catching serious fire

Sam Horsfield switched into the Titleist TSi3 driver (8 degrees @7.25), D2 Surefit with a Mitsubishi Chemical Tensei White AV Raw 75 TX shaft.

Matthew Fitzpatrick finally relinquished his beloved TaylorMade M2 and swapped into a Titleist TSi3 (9 degrees) with a  Graphite Design Tour AD BB 6 X shaft.

Almost positive I saw Jimmy Walker with the TSi4, not the 3 on his Instagram page as an FYI…
