Shot Scope launches multi-function X5 GPS golf watch

Leading GPS and shot-tracking company Shot Scope have introduced their new multi-function X5 GPS Golf Watch, a product that CEO David Hunter says takes “AI technology to a new level,” and costs $299.99.
Designed to be worn and off the course, the X5 offers the following features:
- AI-powered performance tracking of over 100 statistics
- Built-in step counter and accurate, real-time front, middle and back distances to all greens, hazards and dog-legs
- Numbers for over 36,000 preloaded golf courses worldwide
The high-tech, low cost X5 also offers customization with five different watch faces and interchangeable colour straps whilst remaining available with NO subscription fees and free firmware updates.
Potential purchasers can view the features in a new presentation on YouTube, whilst a guide to the navigation menu is also available here.
The launch of X5 comes on the heels of the debut of Shot Scope Academy, a first-of-its-kind game tracking system — designed specifically for PGA Professionals, golf coaches and teachers — that uses advanced technology to establish unlimited connectivity between instructors and golfers to track and analyze their performance “on the course.”
The Shot Scope Academy system allows any type of instructor, from amateur teachers to collegiate coaches, to track the performance of a golfer using the Company’s X5 and V3 Smart Watches, or PRO LX+ Rangefinder models, during a round of golf anywhere in the world. Following the round, all data captured from tee to green is seamlessly uploaded, where the instructor can view and analyze the round and, in-turn, instantly send game improvement recommendations or lesson plans.
The X5 offers over 36,000 pre-loaded courses, mapped in-house and subject to 48-hour updates and edits whilst the real-time data complements Shot Scope’s PinCollect technology, allowing golfers to record the exact pin location for important and accurate putting statistics.
Further, the Green View display provides the shape of the green from any location on the course, allowing the golfer to drag and drop the pin to the correct location for the day. Naturally, the digital scorecard enables the golfer to keep track of scores during the round.
The X5 offers many tracking facilities that include:
- Shot Scope’s new and improved, lightweight 2nd generation plug-n-play RFID tracking tags that are embedded with smart GPS chips and easily screw into the butt-end of every club
- The unique X5’s Power-Sense AI strap technology, delivering instant syncing, while enabling club recognition with no pairing, phone or tagging required.
- The tags communicate with the watch and identify what club was hit and its location on the course.
As a result, the 16 tracking tags that come with the X5 capture detailed data that provide a breakdown of a golfer’s game and style from over 100 performance statistics including Club Distances, Approaches, Short Game, Putting, Strokes Gained and Handicap Benchmarking.
Shot Scope’s Power-Sense AI strap technology works automatically in the background, continuously scanning the golfer’s swing settings to optimize performance tracking. The technology creates an ever-increasing volume and accuracy of data collected from the golfer during play, allowing players to understand and improve their game.
Following a round, golfers can instantly sync their X5 device via Bluetooth with the free to download iOS and Android mobile apps. The app and interactive dashboard provide an aerial view of the course for a bird’s-eye perspective and display all the data captured throughout the round. This enables a golfer, coach or PGA Professional to review and analyze every shot hit from tee to green.
Shot Scope Technologies, with its HQ in Scotland, UK, have always had the aim of improving the way in which both amateur and professional golfers collect and analyze statistics from their game.
The Shot Scope team, consisting of technology experts and golfers, including Gavin Dear, a former Walker Cup player that won 1 1/2 points from two against Brian Harman in the 2009 running, set out to develop smart wearable technology that was more intuitive and comprehensive than any current market offering.
Hunter was understandably enthusiastic about his company’s latest offering, saying, “The X5 GPS Watch is an evolution from the award-winning V3 model, as it takes AI technology to a new level in offering precise distance measuring with unmatched shot tracking that captures accurate data on every shot hit from tee to green, including over 100 statistics for golfers and coaches to analyze every aspect of game performance.”
“Equally impressive, X5 features a step counter that provides golfers with an added level of fitness tracking, as well as the ability to personalize X5 with a range of custom watch faces and color straps that truly establishes a multi-function smart golf watch.”
Hunter added, “The X5 has no equal in terms of features and benefits, from GPS distances to performance tracking, as well as the step counter and customizable features. Add to this the direct connectivity with a coach or PGA Professional through Shot Scope Academy for post round performance analysis, and golfers have a truly game changing piece of equipment for just $299.99.”
The Shot Scope X5, including customizable strap color options (which are sold separately), can be purchased at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy, PGA Superstores, golf specialty stores or online at www.shotscope.com. Full course maps will be available with X5 as part of a future update coming in 2023, as Shot Scope continuously releases new features and updates all free of charge to the golfer.

Below are the results of GolfWRX member voting for the 2025 best driver, along with the vote percentage for each club.
Best driver of 2025: The top 5
5. Callaway Elyte Triple Diamond: 6.02%
Callaway’s pitch: “For golfers looking for a fast, forgiving, yet workable driver, the Elyte Triple Diamond features a tour-inspired shape and is the preferred model by most Callaway tour players.”

4. Ping G440 Max: 6.86%
Ping’s pitch: “The most forgiving G440 model, MAX has a hotter face to generate speed and distance, and a lighter overall system weight with a longer shaft (46″) for faster clubhead speed, higher launch and longer carries. The Free Hosel and Carbonfly Wrap crown save weight to create our lowest CG ever and increase forgiveness while contributing to a more muted, pleasing sound.”

3. Ping G440 LST: 9.53%
Ping’s pitch: “LST is an especially good fit for faster swings, offering less spin and more control with a penetrating trajectory. A hotter face, lighter overall system weight and longer shaft (46″) deliver more speed and distance while maintaining tight dispersion.”
@phizzy30: “Not a fan of Ping drivers in general, but 440 LST takes the cake. It’s super forgiving across the face for a low spin head, looks and sounds good and the ability to make it play neutral or slightly fade biased through the hosel settings is very appealing.”

2. Titleist GT3: 16.55%
Titleist’s pitch: “The GT3 Driver offers Titleist’s boldest combination of power and personalization through adjustable performance. Dial in the CG Track to your frequent contact location to make your biggest drives even bigger while taking total control over flight and shaping.”
@mrmikeac: “I’ve been Anti-Titleist for years and years and years (outside of Vokey, of course). With that being said, HOLY BEGEEZUS the GT3 driver is an absolute NUCLEAR MONSTER! This thing blew my G430 10K Max out of the water in every single category. Forgiveness is the biggest thing that stands out of me, the 3 model has always been one of the less forgiving models in the past but this GT3 can take bad shot after bad shot and still end up in the fairway, I think a ton of that has to do with the adjustability, it’s actually effective. Feel and sound is perfect, that solid crack is so addicting to hear and when you hit it out the screws this thing can absolutely bomb it. Titleist, I’m sorry for doubting you. You have converted me.”

1. Titleist GT2: 22.91%
Titleist’s pitch: “Delivering impressive distance from any impact point, the Titleist GT2 Driver extracts maximum performance through a forgiving design. Get the stability and added confidence of a high-MOI driver without sacrificing speed.”
@DTorres: “The Titleist GT2 has proven to be the best driver of the year. Packaged in a classic profile, GT2 perfectly balances performance and forgiveness while consistently being a high performer across all categories.”
