Why Paul Peterson is playing 2015 Nike Vapor Pro irons
GolfWRX caught up with pro Paul Peterson ahead of the Cognizant Classic. Peterson, who played collegiate golf at Oregon State University prior to turning professional in 2012, had some very interesting irons in the bag.

The 2017 D+D Real Czech Masters winner discussed why he’s recently returned to the clubs — and is playing the best golf of his career.
Check out a portion of his conversation with Andrew Tursky below. Then, be sure to watch the full interview in this week’s edition of Inside the Ropes.
Tursky asked Peterson why the 10-year-old irons made a return to the golfer’s bag.
“They are slightly lower in spin than my previous set of irons, but the contact was so much better. That’s what we want. That’s what we feed ourselves off of. It’s…good contact, good contact. We can fix curve…fix that stuff. If it’s not hitting in the right spot in face, then there’s your first problem. And my tendency was thin. And I feel like with most guys’ speed going up, I haven’t quite picked up that speed increase. So you’re seeing a lot more camber on the bottom of the soles. Mike Taylor and those guys designed those soles to be a little closer — from the contact point on the face to where that sole starts is very small — and helps me get into the turf a little bit better and get that strike point in the right part of the face. So all of it kind of came off of some frustration of not hitting my numbers with my irons.
“I picked up a set that my wife actually brought to an event in England because my clubs were stuck in Ireland. So had to make me up a backup set from the clubs that I won with in Europe in 2016. And those irons were part of that backup set. And I had to play them on Thursday and hit my irons better with those irons than I did Friday when my gamer set came. And then I was just kind of getting a little bit frustrated last year through the beginning part of the year. I mixed in a different golf ball and so that was just exacerbating the spin and the carry numbers being all over the map.
“So I went home, grabbed those clubs again out of the garage and just took a 6-iron and knocked down the flag for 45 minutes. So I ended up reaching out to Mike [Taylor] and those guys at Nike and was just like, ‘Hey, do you guys happen to have any more sets of these Vapors?’ They said, ‘Yeah, we have two sets, because Artisan took over all that.’ I was like, ‘Can I come?’ So I took fourth in Oklahoma last year [Compliance Solutions Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour]. Drove down to Dallas, tested equipment at the Oven after playing well, and I was just like, I cannot sacrifice this contact. So I put them in in Chicago [Memorial Health Championship presented by LRS]. Divot pattern…I mean hadn’t been hitting divots for like three months…My rep comes up and kind of looks at the two divot patterns and is kind of like, ‘Yeah I think these irons are toast. And I put them in…’
“They made me more money than at any point in my career from Chicago to now. So…they’re staying in.”
We can’t argue with that logic.

@mrmikeac: “I’ve been Anti-Titleist for years and years and years (outside of Vokey, of course). With that being said, HOLY BEGEEZUS the GT3 driver is an absolute NUCLEAR MONSTER! This thing blew my G430 10K Max out of the water in every single category. Forgiveness is the biggest thing that stands out of me, the 3 model has always been one of the less forgiving models in the past but this GT3 can take bad shot after bad shot and still end up in the fairway, I think a ton of that has to do with the adjustability, it’s actually effective. Feel and sound is perfect, that solid crack is so addicting to hear and when you hit it out the screws this thing can absolutely bomb it. Titleist, I’m sorry for doubting you. You have converted me.”
