Perry Tops Hoffman in Playoff

Kenny Perry rolled in a birdie putt on the third playoff hole to capture the victory at the FBR Open. “That’s probably the first putt I’ve ever made to win,” Perry said. “Those are the putts you think about when you’re a kid. You’re on the putting green saying, ‘This is to win the Masters, or whatever,’ and I finally made one. It took me a long time to do it.”

Charley Hoffman, whose final round 67 got him into the playoff with Mr. Perry, bogeyed two of his first three holes Sunday with some sloppy, my head is somewhere else, play. With his hairdo from the stylists of Crush and Wear, he managed to right himself with a birdie on the fourth hole and record five birdies in a six hole stretch from holes 8 thru 13.

Kevin Na started the day six shots behind but had a chance on the 18th green to join the playoff, but his 8 foot putt just missed resulting in a third place finish. James NItties and David Toms finished tied for fourth place after closing round 68’s. Mr. Nitties in particular had some real opportunities Sunday, but kept hitting the ball left just enough to make things more difficult than he could overcome.

The three hole playoff was anything but pretty. “The playoff was ugly,” Perry said. “We were hitting it everywhere, having to scramble from all over the place.” Ugly is kind. I was wondering if either of these players was remembering to breathe. They both hit shots all over the yard, and both had opportunities to win. “Kenny gave me a few opportunities, I gave him a few opportunities, and he happened to close the door,” said Hoffman, whose one PGA Tour victory came at the 2007 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Unfortunately for Mr. Hoffman his head was in the doorway when said door was closed.

I wondered as I watched earlier in the week, what is an FBR anyway. I think this tournament is a hoot, what with having a stadium par 3 at the 16th hole. Where else do crowds chant for players to tip their hats and Ted Purdy runs from tee to green madly waving an Arizona Cardinal flag? I was particularly amused when the alcohol fueled section started a wave which petered out when it reached the corporate suite section resulting in a chorus of boos directed at the high rollers. Anyway, FBR stands for Friedman, Billings, Ramsey Group, Inc. They are a real estate investment trust investing in mortgage related assets. Times are truly tough these days, especially when your share price is listed at 0.18. How long do you suppose they can continue to back this tournament? This can’t be a comfortable time for Tim Finchem and the rest of the tour executives. I like this event, it’s different than anything else during the year. I just hope it’s still here next year and beyond.

What is Lorem Ipsum?

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Why do we use it?

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

2026 PGA Championship betting odds

Scottie Scheffler leads the betting ahead of the second major championship of the year, with the World Number One a +345 favorite to get his hands on a second PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy who won the Masters back in April is a +800 shot to complete half of the calendar slam at Aronimink Golf Club this week, while Jordan Spieth can be backed at +5900 to become a career grand slam winner.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
