Tweets of the week: Poulter’s pants problem, Piercy’s son not impressed

Published

Refraining from any gambling-related puns, it suffices to say Webb Simpson won handily in Las Vegas this week at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, bettering the second-place finisher’s total by six strokes. The perpetually humble golfer didn’t win any awards for entertaining or original tweets, save for the fact that he affixed a Bible verse to the end of his tweet of gratitude following the win.

Much of the headline space in golf publications and websites was given to one Rory McIlroy, both because the golfer actually put four good rounds of golf together and because he’s taking his his former management company to court. We can add to this explanatory list, too, the latest installment of Wozilroy: Are they Still Together?

Also in the “I can’t believe he/she actually got it together for a tournament” vein was the prolific Instagrammer Michelle Wie. At the LPGA KEB HanaBank Championship, Wiesy finished just a stroke back of winner Amy Yang, which is a stroke less than Kim Hyung-tae was penalized elsewhere this week at the Kolon Korea Open in Cheonan in a controversial rules decision.

All of the above and more provided fodder for this edition of “Tweets.”

First up, the following from Web.com Tour pro James Nitties. Nitties, whose caddie famously dueled with Marc Leishman’s, is one of the most entertaining pros on Twitter and Instagram. Whether it’s ridiculous bro shots or photobombing his mother while she’s taking a shot of her garden, there’s never a dull moment with the Australian golfer. Check him out on Twitter: @Nitties23.

The LPGA Tour continues its round-the-world trek at the Sunrise LPGA Championship in Taiwan this week. As part of the tour/individual tournament’s concerted effort to increase fan engagement with top players through social media channels, numerous photo/social media opportunities have been constructed this year. This bit with the lanterns (which you can see more of on preeminent LPGA-ers’ accounts) is great. See why it’s different, indeed.

Here’s a seasonally appropriate PSA from David Lynn.

The well-dressed and well-pressed Ian Poulter was having some difficulty remaining the latter in China ahead of the BMW Masters…

After his second-place finish at the Kolon Korea Open, Rory McIlroy was beating drums and announcing his excitement to tee it up at Lake Malaren. Or perhaps those are the drums of war…

I’m not entirely sure of the context, but here’s Scotty Piercy’s son and a wax figure of Tiger Woods. As you can see, the young Mr. Piercy is not impressed.

FedExCup Champion Henrik Stenson posed beside a FedEx truck while sightseeing in New York City. “I guess I do not mind,” the golfer tweeted, and I would assume he doesn’t, as the delivery company is paying him $10 million.

Finally, we have Michelle Wie’s Twitter reaction to her play at the HanaBank Championship. It’s still odd to think that a golfer who was once hyped as being able to win on the PGA Tour is happy to contend on the LPGA Tour and that doing so is a significant leap forward. As Len Mattiace said, “It’s a crazy game.”

Yes if you watch interviews he admits he’s a bit OCD and likes things done his way, fair play to him I say!

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
