Tiger misses WM Phoenix Open cut… by a mile
Tiger Woods won’t be playing the weekend at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. The former No. 1-ranked golfer shot rounds of 73-82 (13-over par) to miss the cut by a projected 12 shots.
He spoke with the media after his worst competitive round as a professional, and joked “I’m just doing this so I don’t get fined,” in reference to Marshawn Lynch’s infamous interview tactics.
Woods started the event with three straight bogeys, and aside from briefly halting the nightmare with an eagle at No. 13 on Thursday, things never got better.
On Friday, Woods made a triple bogey and a double bogey on back-to-back holes at Nos. 14 and 15 — his fifth and sixth holes of the day — and shot 44 on his outward nine. Another double bogey on No. 13 and three more bogeys coming home left him with a final tally of 82 strokes.
When he finished his second round, Woods was in last place — 132nd out of 132 players in the field.
Woods is scheduled to play at the Farmers Insurance Open on Feb. 5 at Torrey Pines, a venue where he’s won a PGA Tour record eight times.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.
The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.

He can’t be serious. He is unable to figure out where his club bottoms out on chips and pitch shots? He can’t figure that out in 10 minutes of practice. If he can’t, how will he figure out the rest. He might be done, he is a mental case with all these ideas

Go back to the clubs and people who got you there Tiger. Comfort and familiarity breed confidence. Then dig it out of the dirt like the other greats.

To me, what made him great before in the short game was being scrappy. He needs to ditch the technical thoughts and get the creativity back.
A lot of these posts say he’s done, its over. I’d like to see him get back to being in contention. Maybe I just miss the ‘better than most’ Tiger…

I went through a similar collapse in my game. I was a scratch player 4 years ago, but one day that all changed. First the swing left and I got the shanks. Then the chunky chip shots started showing up, just like Tiger is doing. It took me almost a year to get rid of the shanks, but my swing is looking better than ever. My short game only JUST NOW came around about a month ago. The problem wasn’t technique or setup, it was mental. I didn’t trust my shot and I couldn’t execute it. Tiger is going to have to get rid of the scars somehow, that’s going to be pretty tough!

Tiger – you’re the one pulling the trigger on every drive, iron, chip and putt. Stop deconstructing the legacy one shanked chip at a time. Take ownership and get better.

I’d hate to help him out, because I despise the guy, but I will tell you what the problem is, and it’s so obvious:
He’s too buff. He’s top heavy, his arms are too big, chest too wide, and shoulders like rocks. He’s been working out too hard, too much, and he’s got too big at his age to be able to deal with being so big. There is a fine line between being ripped and being limber and flexible – and he went too far. More than likely, his vanity still speaks for him, and he’s worried that his belly might hang a bit more than he would like and so he carries on working out until he can’t feel the club any more, he can’t feel the flex of the club, he can’t feel the swing weight. Because now he swings at his hands and not the club head, because all his power is in his arms and shoulders and it throws off him timing and feel. Definitely no feel for chipping, as shown.
He played his best game when he was thin and lithe, and then when he wasn’t quite so ripped, when clothes were worn a bit more baggy so one could hide one’s belly in the shirt. But now he’s obsessed with looking good in his clothes than actually just playing the game of golf for what it is.

That was the greatest golf day of my life. So good to see him fail. And what a twat to try such silly shots on his knees like that! Goes to show you he’s totally done. Mentally, done. He thinks his strong-man workouts will save him – when we all know, when you get too buff in this game, all feel goes away and you just can’t play. It amused to me know that he hadn’t learned that. That he is more concerned about looking good with a flat belly than just being golf-fit. Vain git.

1973, Spot on comment,
In all honesty Golf is really a challenging game.
In South African open (2014) I even saw the great Ernie Els double bogey holes back to back, and it was because of the short game. Golf is hard guys.

Driving terrible, short game horrendous, putting horrible. Too many swing changes, too many swing thoughts. He has become Charles Howell III, thinking about swing positions in stead of hitting the freaking ball. He is so shot, trying to bump and run, because his chipping and pitching confidence is done. I don’t know if he can ever come back from what I saw. It was bad in every aspect. That being said I have him for two majors this season.

What? No injuries this time? No sore teeth or pain in the back? Wow… So good to see that Mr. Cheat is history now. Yes he WAS great but his ex. wife not only hit his Cadilac but also his brains. Yes… let’s move on to the new guys on tour who can smile and be friendly to people.

His noodle is fried. When he was youn he didn’t know how to hit a bad shot, now he does. He never felt pressure, now he can’t stop feeling the pressure. Short game and putting have nothing to do with speed or reps. He can’t get it on the green from 15yds. He can’t make 4′ putts. Confidence is a slippery beast and once it’s gone it’s hard to get back. Can anyone say David Duval?

“speed…reps….explosiveness” Dude you’re not a linebacker or a power lifter. You play golf. Matt kuchar is 40 yards shorter than you and is always on the leaderboard. It’s about accuracy not power man cmon!
