Tour Mash: Grillo wins, and the coolest team in golf

Grillo Captures Web.Com Tour Championship

Things keep getting better for Emiliano Grillo. Entering the weekend he had already claimed his 2015-2016 PGA Tour card, but added more momentum to the upcoming season by winning the Web.com Tour Championship.

[quote_box_center]“It’s been a great week. It’s been a great month,” he said. “I got married a month ago almost, and from there I just started playing good. I’m there. I’m on the PGA Tour, and it feels great.”[/quote_box_center]

Grillo led after the second and third rounds of the Tour Championship at TPC Sawgrass’ Valley Course, with the pressure to hold on mounting after every hole. With a victory on PGA Tour LatinoAmerica (2014 Visa Open de Argentina) and a playoff loss at the PGA Tour’s 2015 Puerto Rico Open, Grillo was no stranger to the pressure of trying to win a big event. Despite a shaky middle (bogeys on Nos. 6 and 8), the Argentine was able to play his inward half in 2-under and secure a 1-stroke victory over Chez Reavie.

Olesen Claims Dunhill Links Championship

Thorbjorn Olesen hadn’t won on the European Tour since the Perth International last year. 2015 was a year filled, as he put it, with injuries and bad golf. Golf offers no better medicine than a victory in the cradle of the game, and Olesen received the proper dosage this week in St. Andrews, riding a hot putter and a super-chill pro-am partner.

The Great Dane made a killer putt on No. 15 to separate from Brooks Koepka and cinch a two-stroke victory. The win moved him into the top 25 in the Race To Dubai.

How To Three-Jack Like A Boss

Kelly Mitchum gave the tour a shot back in the day, but has been director of instruction at a little resort in south-central North Carolina for over a decade — Pinehurst, you may have heard of it. Mitchum still makes his bones in club pro events, and this little demonstration on how to properly three-jack a green reveals why he is a stalwart player and teacher.

Holmes Gets Prez Cup Nod Over Koepka

J.B. Holmes has winning Ryder Cup experience and that must have been the tonic that captain Jay Haas sought to replace the injured Jim Furyk. Holmes has PGA Tour wins in 2014 and 2015 on his resume, after a successful comeback from 2012 brain surgery. While Koepka’s triumph at Phoenix earlier this year certainly made him a blip on Haas’ radar screen, Holmes’ multiple tour victories and national team experience (Palmer and Walker cups, in addition to Ryder) seemed to have been the catalyst for Haas’ decision.

How To Lash An Eagle

Jamie Dornan, the actor who played Christian Grey in 50 Shades of Grey, did his finest Costantino Rocca impersonation by draining this fast-moving, freight train of a putt on the home hole at the home of golf. Ya’tight, Dornan!

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
