Wie Withdraws With Injury

Michelle Wie withdraws from the Ginn Tribute Hosted by Annika. 14 over after 16 holes, she leaves due to exacerbation of the wrist injury she has suffered from since March. Does this have anything to do with the rule that non tour members who shoot 88 or above are banned from LPGA events for a year? I wonder considering the withdrawal came after a conversation with her manager, not a medical person. Did the decision not to finish result from the proximity of the dreaded 88 or worse? Nobody asked those questions of the manager or the family. Perhaps somebody should.

Michelle Wie, wearing bandages on both wrists, told the LPGA Tour official the teenaged equivalent of "no mas" on the 16th hole of the first round of the Ginn Tribute today. Tough break for the kid who has had a string of tough breaks going for a while now. It seems the only thing that’s gone her way lately is getting into Stanford, which is a pretty big deal in my estimation. Golf, however, has not been good to Ms Wie. At the time of her withdrawal she was 14 over par and staring at the possibility of shooting a dreaded 88.

Why is an 88 dreaded, other than being an atrocious score for a professional golfer? The LPGA has a rule that a non tour member who scores 88 or higher is banned from playing for a year. Ms. Wie was two bogies from that scenario when she withdrew. From the reports I read, Greg Nared, her manager, intercepted her on her way to the 8th (her 17th) tee and after a brief discussion which excluded Wie’s mother, she withdrew from the tournament. Not surprisingly Ms.Wie denied thinking about the 88 rule at the time of her withdrawal and I believe her. She’s a golfer, that’s what she’s paid big bucks to do and I’m pretty certain shooting an 88 in an LPGA event never crossed her mind. Even while in the process of perhaps doing just that today. Mr. Nared is another matter entirely. He’s paid to manage the golfer and I can just see the alarm bells and whistles going off in his head when he realized what might be happening. I’m sure of double dose of blood pressure medication and a couple of shots of Tullamore Dew were in order when he realized there might be a year of LPGA tournaments without Ms. Wie in the field. Talk about a reason for your life to flash before your eyes! Yikes!

Now I not saying she wasn’t hurt, I’ve injured my wrists severely and am aware of the lenghty process involved in healing. What I do question is the timing of the withdrawal coupled with the scores she was making, and the arrival of Mr. Nared on the scene. I read the interview questions that Ms Wie was asked after her round and they are silly. "What do you need to work on?" Give me a break! What don’t you need to work on when you’ve managed to do everything from hit a car to send a ball down a storm sewer. What I want to know is what the heck Mr. Nared said and why. Nobody asked those questions. Although I’m not so sure they should be asked of Ms. Wie but rather of her manager.

What is Lorem Ipsum?

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Why do we use it?

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

2026 PGA Championship betting odds

Scottie Scheffler leads the betting ahead of the second major championship of the year, with the World Number One a +345 favorite to get his hands on a second PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy who won the Masters back in April is a +800 shot to complete half of the calendar slam at Aronimink Golf Club this week, while Jordan Spieth can be backed at +5900 to become a career grand slam winner.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
