Mathew Goggin Leads by Three After Three

Despite a 2 1/2 hour rain delay, Mathew Goggin shot one under par 71 to post an 8 under par 208, the highest 54 hole total by a leader in nearly two decades. Leading by three strokes over five others tied at 205, Goggin has said leading after the first or second round matters not at all. When asked about leading after the third round, â€œThatâ€™s an interesting situation,â€ he said. â€œExpectations are rising. Youâ€™re three in front, you expect to win, donâ€™t you? But itâ€™s a tough golf course, and Iâ€™m going to feel the same amount of pressure tomorrow as what I did today. Itâ€™s a great opportunity.” Not that it will be easy at the House that Jack Built.

Mr. Goggin has never won on the PGA Tour so no one knows what to expect from him. In a game as weird as golf he could show up tomorrow and find his best game to be mediocre, letting even the guys who are five shots back into the mix. Two years ago he was tied with Aaron Oberholser at the AT&T National Pro-Am, had issues with mud on the ball early and posted a smooth 78 while Mr. Oberholser went on to victory.

Mike Weir shot the best round of the day, a 68, to put him into the last group with Mr. Goggin. Matt Kuchar went eagle-birdie on holes 15 and 16 to post a 71 and join the party at 5 under par. Jerry Kelly was among that crowd, despite 34 putts led to a 73. Justin Rose had a 70 and Kenny Perry a 74 thus finding themselves peering up at Mr. Goggin’s backside.

“The guys at 3 under are in this golf tournament,” Perry said. “If Mathew has an off day tomorrow, it brings the whole field in.” Very very true on a course that is playing more like a late model US Open than a normal tour stop. Phil Mickelson shot himself to nine shots back and very much out of the contest.

I haven’t seen a weather report for Ohio as of this writing, but if the wind blows who knows what will happen. Remember that last year K.J. Choi was five shots back heading into the final round and walked off the 18th hole as the champion golfer of the week. Watch out for Mr. Weir, he played great in wicked weather, and I have a feeling he’ll be very hard to beat in the final group tomorrow.

What is Lorem Ipsum?

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Why do we use it?

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

2026 PGA Championship betting odds

Scottie Scheffler leads the betting ahead of the second major championship of the year, with the World Number One a +345 favorite to get his hands on a second PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy who won the Masters back in April is a +800 shot to complete half of the calendar slam at Aronimink Golf Club this week, while Jordan Spieth can be backed at +5900 to become a career grand slam winner.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
