Tiger withdraws from the Genesis Open press conference with back spasms

Published

on

Tiger Woods has withdrawn from not only the Genesis Open, but a press conference at the Genesis Open — a tournament that benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation — citing back spasms.

Genesis Open officials released a statement on the matter.

“After receiving daily treatment the last several days on his on-going back spasms, Tiger Woods has again been advised by doctors to limit all activities and will not hold a press conference Wednesday. It will not be rescheduled.”

At the beginning of 2017, Tiger Woods committed to playing in four tournaments in five weeks, including the Farmers Insurance Open, the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, the Genesis Open and the Honda Classic.

Due to back spasms, things are not going as planned for the 41-year old… to say the least.

Woods missed the cut at the Farmers, withdrew after an opening-round 77 in Dubai, pulled out of the Genesis Open and the Honda, and now, most shockingly of all, Woods withdrew from a press conference at the Genesis Open.

This news makes a golf fan wonder whether we’ll ever see Tiger Woods in competition on the PGA Tour again. And if we do, at what cost would it be to the 14-time major champion’s body and future health?

On a more positive note, let’s never forget he once produced the greatest YouTube video of all time.

“Leave the tee there Tiger, c’mon.” Great stuff.

He played on the Hawaii Pacific University Men's Golf team and earned a Masters degree in Communications. He also played college golf at Rutgers University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.

Looks like he’s done. Poor lad. Not that’s he’s poor, but you get what I mean. Must feel awful.

I think “Back Spasms” have become Tiger’s default excuse for getting out of something he doesn’t want to do.

I’ll do the same once or twice a year. I go to the gym during lunch. Every now and then I’ll tell my boss I tweaked my back squatting or deadlifting and will work from home the rest of the day so I can get some ice on it.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
