USGA hires Jason Gore as the organization’s first director of player relations staff

In light of several rules controversies and a growing fractious relationship with certain Tour players, the USGA has hired PGA Tour veteran Jason Gore as the first director of the organization’s player relations staff.

The 44-year-old will oversee a team of four, whose main role will be dedicated to improving player relations, as well as to interact with professional and elite amateur players across the game.

Speaking on the appointment, John Bodenhamer, the USGA’s director of Championships, said in a statement released Friday

“Jason is a dynamic individual who has a great passion for the USGA and the game of golf and is widely recognized and respected by Tour players and staff, as well as industry influencers.

Filling this role has been a strategic priority for the organization for some time and in Jason, we have someone who will bring us player insights and share our position on matters of importance in the game.”

Gore, who is a former winner on the PGA Tour, will relocate with his family to New Jersey in the coming months to fulfill his new role.

It’s nice that the USGA pays guys for ridiculous jobs like this, yet they not only don’t pay workers at their tournaments, they profit by selling them “volunteer packages.”

I had the great pleasure of meeting him on the range at Valencia C.C. near Los Angeles, and he could not have been a nicer gentleman.
I think he has great character, and a steady game! I’m sure he will be a great hire and hopefully bring some balance to the laughing stock
of a USGA and their 1850 different variations of the rules of ball striking.

I see these kinds of comments about the USGA , and I wonder about GolfWRX moderation.

It seems like there is a no-limits “open season” on the USGA and its leadership. But even moderate criticism of millennial Tour players may result in an account being banned.

Gore is a great guy, everyone loves him. But it’ll be interesting to see his new personality since the USGA doesn’t allow smiling or laughing.

Phil Mickelson made history at the 2021 PGA Championship on Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course. At 50, he became the oldest player to win a major, breaking Julius Boros’s record. Starting the final round with a slim lead, Lefty faced tough competition from Brooks Koepka and Louis Oosthuizen. He pulled ahead with key birdies and a standout 366-yard drive on the 16th hole. Finishing 6 under par and two shots ahead, Mickelson claimed his sixth major and second PGA Championship. Many saw his win as an inspiring comeback, showing that experience and determination can still lead to victory in professional golf — and, sometimes, age is just a number.

2026 PGA Championship betting odds

Scottie Scheffler leads the betting ahead of the second major championship of the year, with the World Number One a +345 favorite to get his hands on a second PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy who won the Masters back in April is a +800 shot to complete half of the calendar slam at Aronimink Golf Club this week, while Jordan Spieth can be backed at +5900 to become a career grand slam winner.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.
