Not Another Golf Show: New GolfWRX pod? Ryder Cup pay debate, Caitlin Clark + Three-Putt of Picks

Another golf show, really? That’s right. Welcome to the inaugural episode of Not Another Golf Show featuring GolfWRX Editor-in-Chief, Ben Alberstadt, and the company’s man overseas, Assistant Editor, Gianni Magliocco. After situating the new venture in the golf mediaverse, the guys discuss their plans for the podcast and give some brief background on just who the heck is behind the mics. The hot topic of the week is the Ryder Cup pay row and associated perspectives. Turning to the 19th Hole, Delta Grinds and Caitlin Clark’s pro-am appearance are discussed. What’s up at GolfWRX HQ and Three-Putt of (NFL) Picks round out the show.

The European perspective on the Ryder Cup
Ben Alberstadt: …We have the interesting perspective here of a European…for our largely American audience…we have this belief here in the U.S. that European Ryder Cup players, and to some degree European Ryder Cup fans, view the event differently. [As a] continental pride kind of moment. And you know, they really relish the opportunity to beat up on the Americans…How would you classify the sort of standard European golf fan vis-a-vis the Ryder Cup?
Gianni Magliocco: So I think it’s a lot to do with just the underdog status and I think…historically, it comes down to…the DP World Tour being viewed as the inferior tour. And I think it stems from that. It is an interesting thing because it’s not a country, it’s a continent and like you could say, Rory McIlroy would have more in common with the United States than some of the countries represented on Team Europe. So it’s a tricky one, I think but I think it stems from being the underdogs and having the perceived inferior tour.
Ben Alberstadt: You would know better than me, but I think the reality of, you know, at least historically, much, or the majority, of the team out there kind of band of brothers having played together on the DP World Tour. It’s a significant element of it. And fan enthusiasm kind of follows suit.
