Gianni: Unpopular Opinion – Brandel Chamblee’s takedown of Bryson was electric theater
If you thought Monday of Ryder Cup week would be a slow build-up to the main event, you were wrong.
By Monday evening, golf’s favorite pantomime villain, Brandel Chamblee, had riled fans to the extreme after delivering a brutal takedown of Bryson DeChambeau on Golf Channel’s Live From.
Brandel did not hold back on the multiple major champ, suggesting Bryson cared more for his YouTube channel than the Ryder Cup — and even going so far as to claim many of his views come from bots.
“Bryson plays most of his golf on a tour where he mostly could be in the witness protection program. Nobody watches, he doesn’t get any attention. So, when he does come out, there’s a bit of a circus-barker element to it to drum up some interest for himself.”
Brandel continued:
“He didn’t talk about playing on a team and how much that meant. What he did do was talk about his YouTube channel, which, if we want to talk about the numbers that are generated from that, it’s pretty dubious.
I have no doubt that bots are generating a lot of those views. There may be some interest as well, but that’s what he wants to talk about? Not the team, not the Ryder Cup?”
And he wasn’t finished:
“It’s one of the reasons why I think he’s going to be such a difficult person to get paired with. No doubt he’s one hell of a golfer, no doubt he has his moments and generosity with fans, I’ve heard about it.
But he’s an odd duck when he’s trying to blend in with the team. And he has so many potential bulletin-board mistakes, and I think he would be a captain’s nightmare.”
? “Captain’s nightmare” ?

How GolfWRXers Reacted
In our forums, our members were quick to react to Chamblee’s savage analysis of Bryson, with many believing he crossed the line.
Here’s a few strong takes from our members, and you can join the discussion here.
- naval2006: “He’s a very interesting analyst but he can’t control his anger at LIV.”
- straightshot7: “Brandel has an obvious bias against Bryson because he’s on LIV. To say there ‘might be interest’ in Bryson’s channel lol.”
- GolfTurkey: “The look on Paul McGinley’s face at the end of the clip sums it up…give that man a raise.”
My Take
The response from fans on social media was also largely negative, but sometimes you just have to tip your cap. The audacity to say exactly what he believes, in such a sharp, cutting way, is as admirable as it is entertaining.
Love him or loathe him, and right or wrong, Chamblee isn’t afraid to cut through the boring politeness that has historically smothered golf coverage. His provocative edge is what makes people stop scrolling and pay attention.
And could there be a more perfect week for Brandel to showcase his bravado? The Ryder Cup thrives on passion, narrative, and division, and Chamblee delivered all three before a ball was even struck. That’s not just analysis. That’s theater. And in my view, golf is better for it.

CBS’s Sunday Masters coverage slammed by golf fans
While Sunday was a dramatic day at the Masters, many golf fans were left feeling frustrated by the CBS final round coverage.
There were plenty of moments that golf fans took to social media to air their frustrations on Sunday over, including a lack of shots being shown throughout the day, being behind the live action, confusion over the approach shots of the final group on 18, and providing an angle for the winning putt where the cup couldn’t be seen.
Here’s a look at some of the criticisms that were directed at the CBS coverage throughout the day on X:

This has been a brutal broadcast for CBS. When the folks from Augusta sit down with them this year, you can bet they’ll talk about this 15 seconds where we have no idea where Rory’s ball went, and Dottie moans. #TheMasters pic.twitter.com/ak3mkpIN7V

It’s rare criticism coming in for CBS, who are usually heavily praised for their Masters coverage each year.

The surprise club Tommy Fleetwood says is key to his Masters chances
Tommy Fleetwood goes in search for the first major victory of his career again this week, with the Englishman proving to be a popular pick at Augusta National.
Fleetwood’s best showing at Augusta came back in 2024 where he finished T3, and while speaking at his pre-tournament press conference, the 35-year-old emphasized the importance of his 9-wood in his pursuit of the green jacket.
Speaking on Tuesday to media, Fleetwood said:
“It’s a great 9-wood golf course. I think it’s always been — I can’t remember when I first put like a 9-wood in or a high lofted club, but it’s a perfect like 9-wood golf course. I’ve had that in the bag for a few years.”
The Englishman continued, revealing that his strategy for the week won’t just be to hit driver off the tee as much as possible:
“Yeah, it’s funny really because I know Augusta is probably associated with being fairly forgiving off the tee in a way, so you think you can whale around driver a little bit. But I don’t necessarily think that’s always the play for me. I think there’s holes that set up really well where I can draw it with the mini driver if I’m feeling less comfortable with the driver and things like that.”
That strategy he believes will make his TaylorMade Qi10 9-wood extra critical this week in Georgia:
“The biggest thing is the 9-wood for me. If I can put myself in position on the par-5s or the 4th long par-3, like it — for me, I can’t really hit that high 4-iron, so 9-wood helps me a lot.”
