Brandel Chamblee on what Tiger did during his career that no other athlete has done in sporting history

Tiger Woods’ list of achievements in the game of golf is pretty remarkable, with the 50-year-old winning a record 82-times on the PGA Tour throughout his career, including 15 major championships.

Plagued by a series of injuries in recent times, Woods has not teed it up in a professional event since the 2024 Open Championship, and it remains to be seen when Tiger will next compete again having undergone yet more surgery on his back just a few months ago.

When it comes to the GOAT discussion, Woods will always be in the conversation, and golf’s leading analyst Brandel Chamblee recently pinpointed something Tiger has done that no other athlete, let alone golfer, has done in the history of sport.

Speaking to Trey Wingo, Chamblee stated:

“I can tell you there are a lot of things that will never happen again. One thing that will never happen again and has never happened in any other sport anywhere is that he became the best player in the world four different times with four completely different swings.

It’s not that nobody will ever do that again; it’s that no one would ever think to do that again. It takes all the time in the world to develop one golf swing, to become consistent with that swing, and then to become dominant with that swing.”

Chamblee continued:

“Tiger did that with four completely different golf swings. They were not at all alike. Different grips; different takeaways; different positions at the top. They were different in every single way.

You cannot compare the ’97 swing to the 2000 swing; they were vastly different. You can’t compare the 2000 swing to the 2007 swing; they were completely different. You can’t compare the 2000 swing to the 2012 swing; it was a completely different golf swing.”

With Brandel adding:

“By the way, in 2019, he ended up right where he started, basically, with the 2000 swing. He came full circle and went back to the golf swing in 2000 and won The Masters with it. Nobody is ever doing that.

There is no way that Michael Jordan would have changed the way that he shot the basketball in his prime, or Stephen Curry, and then became just as dominant and consistent doing it. Imagine Steph doing that four different times. I don’t know how you could do that in basketball, but I would have never thought that you could do that in golf.”

Chamblee noted that Nick Faldo did have success changing his golf swing, but emphasized a key difference in comparison with Tiger, saying:

“People say, ‘What about Nick Faldo?’ Nick Faldo was going from a place of doubt to a place of confidence when he changed his golf swing.

He wasn’t changing from a successful golf swing. He was changing his golf swing because he couldn’t win a major with it. Tiger was dominant, winning majors, and decided to change his swing.”

What is Lorem Ipsum?

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Why do we use it?

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

2026 PGA Championship betting odds

Scottie Scheffler leads the betting ahead of the second major championship of the year, with the World Number One a +345 favorite to get his hands on a second PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy who won the Masters back in April is a +800 shot to complete half of the calendar slam at Aronimink Golf Club this week, while Jordan Spieth can be backed at +5900 to become a career grand slam winner.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
