Open Championship Round 2 Recap
There are many questions regarding Sergio Garcia’s ability to win the big tournaments and at the half way mark of the major that he says he would like to win the most he sits at the top of the yellow and black Open leader boards.
Sergio Garcia was at the top of the Open Championship’s leaderboard after round one and there were many questions about how he would react to having the lead. Garcia’s second round was steady; it wasn’t anything special but much better then the round in the 80’s that he has posted in past Open Championships. This round had two bogeys but they where offset by the two birdies that he made along with 14 pars.
Garcia has always been known at a great ball striker and driver of the golf ball but it’s been the putting that has let him down in past years but he may have found a fix to the putting problems. Two weeks ago Garcia switched to a belly putter which is letting him release the putter head at impact much better. In his own words, “it feels miles better then anything ever has in the past”.
One of the best rounds of the day was posted by Canadian Mike Weir who’s three under par 68 has vaulted him into third place only one shot behind K.J. Choi who has been playing some great golf this year with wins at Bay Hill and the Memorial tournament. Choi followed up his opening round 69 with a second round 69 to place him only two shots behind Garcia and in the last group of a major championship.
Round three of the open is calling for some harsh weather and at days end it wouldn’t be surprising if there is less then the current 12 players under par on the yellow and black leader boards that represent the Open Championship.

Aaron Rai upset the odds to win his first major championship on Sunday at Aronimink, firing a final round of 5-under par to see off his competitors and claim the winner’s check for $3,690,000.
Jon Rahm and Alex Smalley were the best of the chasing pack, with both men sharing runner-up spot which was good enough for each to receive a check for $1,804,000.
With a total prize purse of $20.5 million up for grabs, here’s a look at how much each player won at the 2026 PGA Championship.
