This week in golf tweets: Wie’s walkoff and a puppy for Duf

In the lull between the end of PGA Championship and the beginning of the FedExCup Playoffs, there’s been no shortage of compelling golf stories. Between the Solheim Cup, Patrick Reed’s playoff win over Jordan Spieth at the Wyndham Championship (not to mention the Paulohnson/Dustzky engagement), we’ve been treated to a variety of golf headlines.

On the second playoff hole of the Wyndham Championship Patrick Reed hit an incredible recovery shot from an uphill lie amongst pine needles. Finding the green some 7 feet short of the hole, Reed sank his birdie putt, while opponent Jordan Spieth missed. With that, the 23-year-old won his first PGA Tour event.

As GolfWorld tweeted thereafter:

You can watch it by clicking here.

On the 16th hole of her fourball match Saturday with Jessica Korda against Europe’s Caroline Masson and Caroline Hedwall, Michelle Wie walked off the green after holing her putt. The problem? Masson and Hedwall hadn’t putted yet. Wie’s walkoff was a breach of etiquette, to be sure (however, it might not be for long, considering tactics, which are being tested on some tours to speed up play).

Following the match, which Wie lost, the golfer took to Twitter to apologize:

Of course, Wie’s getting “caught up in the moment” prestaged the U.S. team getting caught in a tight spot. It didn’t look good on Saturday night, as the U.S. trailed mightily entering the final round, and the PGA Championship winner chimed in on Twitter:

The ladies did not go crazy. Rather, they put the finishing touches on an 18-10 defeat. Sweden’s Caroline Hedwell became the first Solheim Cup participant to win all five of her matches, prompting Golf Channel’s Kelly Tilghman to unleash this awful pun:

Elsewhere, Charles Howell III was disqualified for using a non-conforming driver, which we covered extensively here, and Michael Fitzpatrick, 18, became the first Englishman since 1911 to win the U.S. Amateur.

Now that we’ve gotten all of the above out of the way, we can get to the real news: Dustin and Paulina got engaged and Jason Dufner got a puppy!

Here’s Ms. Gretzky’s rock, as posted by her fiance in an engagement announcement 2.0 on Twitter:

And here’s Prince Louie Dufner proving that the Wanamaker holds 48 beers, or one French bulldog puppy.

“Now that we’ve gotten all of the above out of the way, we can get to the real news: Justin and Paulina got engaged”

Dustin is going to be pissed to hear that Justin beat him to the engagement.

    I like Duf’s dog…

Kelly Tilgman must resist and keep her lips zipped…

    Paulina is well, Paulina-esque, and

Wie needs a new putting method… 6 foot and bending over like that only incites men to stand behind her…

Well said. When will the GC open their eyes and realize her and chamblee need to go. The two of them bring nothing to any of their broadcasts.
