Cobra BiO Cell+ Irons: In-hand photos and comparison pics
Check out out in-hand and comparison photos of Cobra’s new Bio Cell+ irons, which are smaller and have less offset than the company’s Bio Cell irons that were unveiled in November.
The Bio Cell+ irons include much of the same technologies as the Bio Cell irons, with two tungsten weights in their cavities that are placed on the perimeter of the cavity on the 3-through-7 irons and behind the impact area on the 8 iron, 9 iron, pitching wedge and gap wedge. But they’re cast from a softer 431 stainless steel, and have a more compact undercut that allows for more precise placement of the irons center of gravity: low in the short irons and mid irons, and higher in the short irons.
The Bio Cell+ irons come stock with True Temper’s Dynamic Gold shafts and will sell for $799 (3-G) when they hit stores on Feb. 7.

Putters that never made it: Check out some of the best tour builds that didn’t make the cut
Arguably, the best perk of being a professional golfer on the PGA Tour is the ability to request or even just be handed pretty much any club you could think of. It happens more often than you think, usually with putters around the practice green from one event to the next. Come Wednesday, the Tour bags lining the edge of the putting surface become resting places for fallen flatsticks that never made the cut.
So let’s take a look at some of the best we’ve seen out on Tour this year that never made it to the competition. (You may notice none of Hideki Matsuyama’s custom Scotty Cameron putters made this list. There are too many.)
Let’s start with this custom Damascus Milled Odyssey Rossie made for Ryo Hisatsune. Featuring a single line and the short-slant hossel, we’ve seen plenty of Number 7 and jailbird heads featuring the Damascus Milled insert, but this is the first and only one we’ve spotted in a Rossie. Hisatsune primarily putts with an Odyssey Black Series iX #9, but we have seen him recently with a TaylorMade TP Collection SOTO, so there could be potential that the Damascus Milled Rossie could end up in the bag.

Everyone wants to be Cameron Young right now. We’ve had Justin Thomas and Tom Hoge both game the Scotty Cameron 9.5R prototype. Well, for the PGA Championship, Brooks Koepka nearly joined that list after requesting the same style of putter, with the full-length alignment line. But the Scotty Cameron reps took the request a step further and made one specially for Koepka with a Teryllium insert, similar to one in his previous Newport 2 gamers. The reason why this one didn’t go into play, though? Because it was too heavy.

Harry Hall was the third-best putter on Tour last year, so when Bettinardi made him a custom proto, you know it was going to be good. The custom BB28 blade features VDF face milling, a custom-welded single-bend shaft, and the owner’s initials – HH – on the sole of the putter. Hall, who usually games an Odyssey O-Works #7 W, has dabbled with a TaylorMade Spider Tour X already this year. Maybe there’s a chance this Bettinardi might make his bag.

Honestly, this one doesn’t need a description. It’s Kieth Mitchell’s custom Scotty Cameron Napa. One Scotty Cameron face stamp, two Scotty Dogs, two Scotty Cameron 7-Point Crowns and one Circle T. That is all. Oh, except for the Cashmere Cameron headcover.

Finally, and just for fun, how about we pour one out for this TaylorMade Spider Tour X made for Scottie Scheffler in its new torched finish. It’s unlikely we’ll see a putter change anytime soon from the best golfer in the world. In fact, he hit just two putts with it on the Harbour Town practice before going back to his trusty gamer.

Which of Tiger’s major winning irons are your favorite? – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been discussing their favorite major winning irons used by Tiger Woods. WRXer ‘golferdude54’ kicks off the thread saying:
“Mizuno MP 14/29. Titleist 681T. Nike Forged Blades. TaylorMade P7TW.
Among these irons that helped Tiger win 15 majors, which is your favorite in terms of looks?”
And our members have been naming their favorites and why in response.
Here are a couple of posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- SwingBlade: “I prefer the early blades he played and the more recent TM TW’s especially because after Tiger had his major behavioral setbacks, part of Nikes support payback was making Tiger play a Nike putter and cease using his beloved uniquely customized Scotty putter.”
- ProjectX: “This (Nike Forged Blades) and there’s not even a close second.”

Being a younger guy in my mid twenties… with style, and enjoying hitting the long ball. I love these clubs! These irons look sleek, and hit very well. I applaud Cobra for having the ability to be creative, outside of the box, and for being productive all at the same time! Keep it up Cobra… Don’t back down, why? They say haters are going to hate! And they will. But with younger guys like myself, and future generations… We like seeing clubs on the market that have an eye popping look, and oh yeah! Did I mention they hit great as well?

What would you prefer? A higher score with pretty pretty clubs or a lower score with not-so-pretty clubs?
From what I can see, the tech is very advanced. Look up “resonant cavities” and think about what they can do 🙂
BTW, I have no association whatsoever with Cobra Golf.

OK, i’ll be nice, photos are making them look fat, chunky and ugly, but in a real touchy session, if they are slim they may look alright.

Technology sounds legit. Not just coming out with the same irons every year like some companies. I give ’em credit for that. And I’m sure there is gonna be that patented Cobra choice of colors…which could be kinda awesome actually.
Real pretty from top down, that’s all I care about. Not too much offset and small topline. I’ll give it a try!!!

Somebody left Callaway, went over to Cobra’s office and threw up metal bits after eating too many razor blades for thrills and this is what came out.

Hitting is believing… Regardless of looks, Cobra irons have flat out performed the past few years… and when was the last time looks lowered your scores? I’d give them a try and let the performance do the talking.

It comes with a clown hat on the top of the grips. You would be the clown with those irons. Ugly!

Looks like the human/Alien hybrid. Sigourney Weaver needs to roll up into the Cobra factory and put these things out of their misery.

Even though I am new to golf and a young person, those look horrible. Man did they get any feedback before they made those?

honestly don’t think they could have made an uglier iron if they tried.. I didn’t care for all the orange they were using because of ricky fowler, but I guess that was just a warm up for the ugliest irons ever to be made. I think the designer was watching too man batman movies while thinking these up.

Agree with others… they look ok in address position, but I would be embarrassed to have these in my bag because the backside is probably one of the ugliest designs I have ever seen. Awful looking. Cobra has jumped the shark.

Can’t agree more, these are real Medusas. As long as you look at them from address or in front you’re safe. But if you flip em around and don’t use a mirror, you’ll likely turn to stone. Too bad, because they probably work well.

I realize one man’s medicine may be another man’s poison but, the back of these irons may be the most unattractive design I have ever seen. Perhaps their performance will be such that we all may covet a set of them. Regardless, they shall never darken the cavity of my bag!
