Photos from The Masters

Published

GolfWRX is live this week from The Masters at Augusta National Golf Club. As always, blooming azalea’s, white caddy jump suits, lightening fast greens, and the beginning of spring welcome the world’s best amateurs and professionals to the season’s first major, where players will compete for the coveted green jacket.

This year’s rendition will be without Tiger Woods, the No. 1 player in the Official World Golf Rankings, due to a recent back surgery. Three players in the field will have the opportunity to take over his ranking as the world’s best. Defending champion Adam Scott (No. 2) needs to finish in a two-way tie for third or better, Henrik Stenson (No. 3) needs a two-way tie for second or better, which would make him the first Swedish No. 1 player in the world, and Jason Day (No. 4) would need to win the tournament to overtake Woods’ position atop the rankings.

Newcomers, old-time greats and the top players in the world fill out the rest of the field. Notable names include three-time Masters Champion Phil Mickelson, two-time major winner Rory McIlroy, 2012 Masters Champion Bubba Watson, 2013 U.S. Amateur Champion Matthew Fitzpatrick and a few Masters’ staples including Fred Couples, Bernhard Langer,  Mark O’Meara, Sandy Lyle, Tom Watson, Jose Maria Olazabal, Ian Woosnam and Ben Crenshaw.

Craig Stadler, who won the Masters in 1982 and is calling this his last year at Augusta, will join his son Kevin Stadler, who is making his first appearance at the event. They will be the first father-son duo to ever compete in the Masters in the same field.

Over 1400 photos from There Masters in two days (Monday was a rain out) and no players really making an equipment changes. Over 800 at each of the two PGA Tour events leading up to the Masters (one rain out day at San Antonio) and over 2400 from the two LPGA events.

Nothing new coming out this time of year for the Equipment companies.

Not sure how this is a decline when there are 5400 photos from 5 tournaments in 3 weeks???

Any one know what driver Westwood is playing this week? Looked like a G10 when I was watching him on the “live on the range” Wednesday.

Very interesting that TaylorMade doesn’t have Masters edition staff bags. I understand they aren’t doing it for the other majors this year either. Interesting that the company that was responsible for starting the whole trend has decided to stop, meanwhile their competition continues on. One could read into this and speculate that marketing / product budgets are probably getting cut at TM now that the money isn’t rolling in like it used to.

Could it be due to the softer conditions, more bounce, and needing to hit it higher at Augusta? I say that plays a part.

Photos from the 2022 PGA Show

Published

GolfWRX was on site for the golf business’s annual winter rite: the PGA Merchandise Show.

While the weather was less than cooperative for demo day, there were no such difficulties inside the Orange County Convention Center. This isn’t to say there weren’t significant figurative headwinds influencing this year’s Show, but those are widely discussed elsewhere. Our duty here was merely to document, and that is what we did to the tune of more than 1,500 photos, below.

Enjoy!

Interesting photos from the Mallorca Open

Published

on

Thanks to our friends at SMS_on_Tour for sending along some shots from last week’s Mallorca Open at Golf Santa Ponsa.

Denmark’s Jeff Winther topped a trio of players at 14 under (and some trouble in a bathroom) to win.

Let’s take a look at some interesting photos!

First up, Ashley Chesters with a Nike Vapor Fly 5-wood in the bag.

Twitter sensation Eddie Pepperell is one of the few pros we’ve spotted with a TaylorMade 300 Mini Driver in play.

Scott Hend’s wedges feature some fantastic stamping.

An original White Hot 2-Ball in the wild. The real OG!

Mitsubishi Kai’li (which officially launched today) spotted here.

Scott Hend with the pink paintfill on his Toulon Palm Beach.

Jazz Janewattanond’s wedge stamping never disappoints (even if often confounds)
