Final Tale of Turnberry

All Tom Watson needed was an eight iron to the putting surface and two putts to complete an amazing four-day journey at Turnberry. Instead he over-cooked his iron from the edge of the fairway and left himself a difficult up and down from rough just off the back of the green. He was unable to get down in two and then got smoked in the four hole playoff with Steward Cink. Cink deserves credit for playing rock solid all week and clearly deserved the win with his 2-under performance in the final four holes under immense pressure. A ten-time winner on tour and one of the best ball strikers of his era, Cink is over due as a major title holder and this dramatic win could give him confidence to excel in future big tournaments.

Unfortunately, Stewart Cink’s victory deprives golf fans from what would have been the best Major storyline of this decade. The 80s had Jack Nicklaus’ victory in the 1986 Masters. The 90s had Tiger Woods’ record breaking victory at Augusta in 1997. This decade could have had Tom Watson, 59 years old and 25 years removed from his last major victory as the Open Champion of 2009. He had history in his grasp! He had overcome so many obstacles how could he let it slip out of his hands on the final hole? It was as if the Golf Gods wanted to stir our emotions into a frenzy of anticipation only to snatch it out from under us at the last minute. As a golf fan watching the tournament on television I was numb after it was over.

For anyone over the age of 40 you are familiar with Tom Watson. He is a man deserving of great respect. He is very humble, gracious to fellow competitors and fans and always acknowledged those who helped him along the way. He cried when walking off the green after Jack’s last round at St. Andrews due to the respect he had for the dominant player of his generation. Tom Watson is a true credit to the game of golf and United States, for that matter. He’s a great guy and he deserved it – but he didn’t get it. Stewart Cink was overdue to win his first major but we, as golf fans, were overdue to experience the best story in over a decade. It was like reading a great fairy tale that had a terrible, unexplainable ending. Because he didn’t get the Claret Jug we didn’t get fulfillment of this wonderful Tale at Turnberry.

What is Lorem Ipsum?

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Why do we use it?

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

2026 PGA Championship betting odds

Scottie Scheffler leads the betting ahead of the second major championship of the year, with the World Number One a +345 favorite to get his hands on a second PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy who won the Masters back in April is a +800 shot to complete half of the calendar slam at Aronimink Golf Club this week, while Jordan Spieth can be backed at +5900 to become a career grand slam winner.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
