Photos from the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai

Published

Bubba Watson won the WGC-HSBC Champions event in Shanghai, China as only Bubba could — he holed out a bunker shot on No. 18 at Sheshan International for eagle after nearly blowing the tournament with a double-bogey on No. 17, then rolled in a 20-foot birdie putt to defeat Tim Clark in a playoff. And he called the miracle bunker shot to his caddy.

“You always joke about holing it [the bunker shot],” Watson said. “And then it actually went in. I didn’t know how to react and so I just kind of screamed and I lost my voice a little bit. It was one of those shots, a one-in-a-lifetime kind of shot. And so it was pretty neat.”

With the last-hole heroics, the two-time Masters champion picked up his first ever World Golf Championship.

Rickie Fowler finished in third place, one shot out of the two-man playoff. He tried to reach the par-5 No. 18 in two with a 5-wood from 228 yards — and he almost made it — but the ball rolled back into the hazard. He scrambled for par, but needed a birdie to join the playoff. Graeme McDowell, who failed to complete a wire-to-wire victory, finished three shots short of the leaders with a final round 73.

So what was the best part about Watson’s bunker shot magic in Shanghai? WRX was there to capture it all. Check out our photos from the WGC-HSBC Champions event in Shanghai, which include Watson’s exciting finish.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
