Monday Tour Mash: Bubba Golf prevails, Trump’s nasty letter

Bubba Tops Casey In Two-Hole Playoff At Travelers

Paul Casey thought he had the shot of the day on the 3rd hole at TPC River Highlands, holing out from 126 yards to halve a four-shot deficit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87YJUaSyXOI

Bubba Watson matched him 10 holes later on No. 13 with a 40-foot eagle putt to keep the game on. Both Watson and Casey would finish at 16-under, leading to a sudden-death playoff.

After pars on the first go-round on No. 18, the first playoff hole, Casey made a mess of the short par 4 on take two. He found a fairway bunker, then a greenside bunker, and then blades his third shot into the crowd. Watson calmly hit his approach to 7 feet and made the putt for the win.

Although they didn’t win in Connecticut, Graham DeLaet, Luke Donald, Brian Harman and Carl Petterson had cause for celebration. The quartet earned spots in next month’s Open Championship at St. Andrews, via an arrangement between the Royal and Ancient and the PGA Tour. Four more golfers will earn spots at the John Deere Classic in July.

N-Y-Seeyah With My Eagle

Na Yeon Choi (NYC to her friends) played golf pong with her 8-iron approach to the 16th green of the LPGA’s Arkansas Championship.

She dunked the shot on the third bounce, bringing her from one back to one ahead of defending champion Stacy Lewis. Choi added a bounce-ahead birdie on the next hole and coasted to a two-stroke triumph over Mika Miyazato.

Lewis is always the favorite in Arkansas, but after her fourth birdie of the day on No. 10, there were no birdies left in the tank. A meaningless bogey on No. 18, where she needed eagle to tie, dropped Lewis into a third-place tie with Azahara Muñoz. Miyazato made six birdies on the day, and only a back-nine double bogey kept her from the top slot.

Maggert Celebrates Second Senior Tour Major

JeffMaggertGolf

Just five weeks after winning his first senior major championship — the Regions Tradition — Jeff Maggert added a second senior major championship to his trophy case, the U.S. Senior Open.

The 51-year-old Texan tore loose from the gate with three consecutive birdies on Sunday at Del Paso Country Club, and added three more throughout the day. Colin Montgomerie, the defending champion, gave chase but never quite caught up. He birdied four of his first 10 holes and none of the remaining eight, finishing two shots back of Maggert.

Pablo Larrazábal Seals Win At BMW International Open

PabloLarrazabalBMW

The final round at Munich looked like a game of hot potato. Multiple golfers took a shot at winning the title, but none could stand the heat until the young Spaniard marched to the head of the queue.

James Morrison began the day with the lead, but flamed out with a five-bogey, no-birdie 77, dropping to the 11th spot. Unheralded Chris Paisley of England took a stab at the crown, but two late bogies dropped him from the mix into solo third place. Ultimately, it came down to a Henrik Stenson charge (five birdies and an eagle for a closing 65) versus Larrazábal’s nerves. Larrazábal passed the test, making a birdie on No. 16 to escape with a one-stroke victory and his fourth European Tour win.

Trump and Univisión Say “No Más”

This one will get uglier. Seems that El Donaldo insulted all of México during his “I’m Running For Prez” announcement. Univisión responded by saying, “We’re done with Trump’s Miss Universe gig.” Trump responded by figuratively and literally closing the gate on a relationship between his Doral property and Univisión headquarters.

Screen Shot 2015-06-29 at 9.47.30 AM

Then, the Univisión director of programming content, Alberto Ciruana, Instagrammed a meme comparing Señor Trump to the alleged Charleston church murderer. U-G-L-Y you ain’t got no alibi…that’s how the whole thing looks.

What does this mean for Trump’s candidacy? His role as a PGA Tour host? His desire to host a U.S. Open at one of his courses? Who the heck knows. The hair to the throne will certainly have the last word, but which will he choose? Here’s hoping for detente.

Trump’s letter is significant insight to his Ego, and why he should not be President. He is quick overly retaliate against anyone who questions his actions or comments. He is just to self-absorbed and only has his interest at heart.

Say something he doesn’t agree with and you are an idiot and he responds like a 10 year old. In short he is a bully and intolerant.

Haven’t we heard enough Trump & Tiger stories?

    • Ronald Montesano

Short answer: No. Tiger is playing well this week and Candidate Trump is an important force in the future of golf. Some see him as positive and others, don’t. For that reason, I will continue to weigh the value of each when crafting articles.

Barry, I don’t know what to say. Can you elaborate? Be more specific? It would help me to understand your view.

Start with the fact that Trump was referring to ILLEGAL aliens. The lefties seem to have omitted that “little” piece of info. WHY? Can’t you guess?

I suspect that they used the word “hair” on purpose.
After all, “The Donald” is known for that unusual hair on top of his head, often referred to as looking like some sort of animal fur.
Thus, hair to the throne, used near the end of the final paragraph, is likely a pun or play on words.

The troubling aspect of Donald Trumps comments is more what is not said. Money does not buy class and in his case this is more evident. This man is an arrogant, condescending, bully that thinks he cansay what ever is on his mind with little consequence. I think he beginning to get the message that it does matter.

My greatest concern with Candidate Trump is his suggestion that golf is something to be aspired to. The golf courses that he owns and frequents fit into this category, but no game can be a game of one generation. You need to have memories, both intellectual and kinesthetic, of what the game was like “back then.” If I had not started playing as a youth, golf would not mean to me what it does. For the rare bird like the candidate, who picks up golf at a later age and excels, this notion is lost.

Donald Trump is a buffoon. It’s comical to read the comments on here supporting his straight xenophobic comments about the same people he will be pandering to if he laughably makes it out of the primary. The Doral letter is a grown man throwing a childish fit and lashing out in any way he can.

I love golf the sport. The people of golf leave much to be desired though. Perhaps the sport is dying because the standard bearers openly hate the biggest growing potential market in the US.

    • JD

      Jul 1, 2015 at 12:10 pm

Your listening skills are highly inadequate. Your ability to discern the true consequences for unfettered Mexican immigration is laughable. And the buffoon is You!! For not listening to the announcement speech In its entirety; listen again “Testy Tony” you might regret your comment.
If not your just another liberal sheep with piss poor listening skills.

Some idiots have no clue that the United States is as bankrupt as Greece. The USA cannot afford 50 million invaders getting endless govt benefits. These fools think we can just print more money and issue more worthless Treasury bonds and notes. These open border fans are going to meet reality soon and it will not be pretty. Their short game will be the least of their worries.

Empires decline and implode usually because of too much debt. The idiots do not know golf history back to Jack let alone the reasons why Rome and other empires implode. Start preparing now.

Tony, I laughed a bit seeing your comment because “buffoon” is exactly the word my wife chose to describe Trump after he announced his candidacy. It’s perfect. Your assessment of his behavior is spot on, too.

On the other hand, I’ve never considered The Buffoon to be a standard bearer of golf, and I certainly never will.

        Jul 2, 2015 at 3:22 am

Matt – My standard bearer of golf comment is more aimed at the demographic that believes in his rhetoric. It’s quite evident just from the comments on here.

I don’t think the Trump letter has any business on this site. It literally has nothing to do with the world of golf and is just speculating to make it seem worse than it is. When it actually affects his position with the PGA Tour then it becomes news. “Who the heck knows” is not journalism.

    • Ronald Montesano

      Jun 30, 2015 at 12:31 pm

I believe it does, since Trump is a golf course owner and developer, has long coveted USGA championships for his courses and host a PGA/WGC event at Doral.

    • tony

      Jul 2, 2015 at 3:25 am

It “literally” is exactly about golf and it’s inclusion will be a good reference when they eventually write the post detailing the PGA’s decision to pull the event from Doral due to Sponsor threats from Trump’s racist comments.

    Jun 29, 2015 at 7:17 pm

Trump’s letter is a cheap way for the writer to get some shots in. As an American Vet of Mexican descent (born and raised in Mexico) I agree with 90% of Mr. Trumps comments and actions, as far as hosting as U.S. Open, he deserves a dozen!!! Fighting for the U.S. and putting the U.S. first regardless of political correctness.

    • Ronald Montesano

      Jun 30, 2015 at 12:33 pm

Can you elaborate on your use of the word “cheap,” Rockatansky? I didn’t find it cheap, which is why I used it.

      RM

      • Mad-Mex

        Jul 1, 2015 at 5:35 am

Rockantasky? So I disagree with your cheap shot and you in turn insult me? Allow me to explain as simple as possible, if I want to read about politics, this is the LAST place I would come to, using this platform is a cheap way to show your political views.
aif your not willing to take criticism for your writing may I suggest a different area to “dab” in.

        • Eddie

          Jul 1, 2015 at 11:44 am

Rockantasky as in Max Rockatansky from the George Miller Mad Max films, which is what he assumed your username referred to. Just because you don’t understand the reference, you assume it is an insult?

        • Ronald Montesano

          Jul 1, 2015 at 3:14 pm

Rockatansky is Mad Max’s last name. I presumed, since you use Mad Mex instead of your real name, that you chose a tribute to the movie character. If that isn’t the case, I retract my Rockatansky.

I don’t use GolfWRX to elaborate on anything beyond the world of golf.

Now, could you elaborate? Thank you.

Shouldn’t that read: “Hair to the Throne”, or at least “Hair” to the throne?

    Confused.

All of you grammatically-correct people really grind my gears. Absolutely it should and could. I figured that the “” would be understood.

As a Texan I have to agree with Trump.
I will never understand how people conflate the acknowledgment of problems stemming from Mexican immigration to racism.
It’s a simple fact that the pouring of people across the borders is a hinderance on our economy.
My wife is an inner city ER physician and yall would be horrified at the exploitation of our medical system.

Our economy runs on the backs of Mexican immigrants working for pennies. Food is basically our only export at this point. It would not be possible if we paid these HUMAN BEINGS a fair wage. The ones who aren’t 1 step above slavery and use fake SS#s pay into the system and never get to file for a refund. We would owe them billions if they were Americans. Trump is a sideshow act, but I’m pretty sure even he knows this. He just knows the right talking points to get the racist conservative base riled up.

      • MattSihv

        Jul 1, 2015 at 8:41 am

Oh Ross, if only I could take you and all the easily-offended liberals and separate them financially from the conservatives in America… Without conservative money and work-ethic, your side of the equation would have too many freeloaders to be supported by your fairy-tale economic ideals…
