Better Late Than Never for Ogilvy

It took five days and multiple restarts. However, Geoff Ogilvy finally claimed his wire to wire win at the CA Championship.

After a lengthy rain delay Sunday afternoon, the final round was halted due to darkness until Monday morning. Ogilvy held of Jim Furyk and Vijay Singh’s back nine charges for his first win since the 2006 U.S. Open. "Last year, I had a reasonable year but I wasn’t that happy with it. I sat down and set about having a better year this year and working on things that I didn’t like, not really rededicating, because it’s not like I’m not dedicated, but finding a balance with the family and the golf and getting it all worked out, because you know you can get it worked out, and I really feel like I did that this off-season, had a really good off-season and feel like I’m playing pretty good," said Ogilvy.

Ogilvy did not have a single birdie in his final nine holes. But a key par save on the par three 13th was pivotal in his win. After finding the left rough off the tee, Ogilvy flubbed his first chip shot leaving it in the rough. His second came out hot but hit the pin and went in for par. The serendipity of the shot was not lost on Ogilvy who commented, "It was probably not that lucky to hit the flag, but it was very lucky to go in. You quite often see guys hit chips like that that slam into the pin and stop a foot away or something. That’s quite a common occurrence, but for it to go in is pretty fortunate."

Vijay Singh played in the final group with Ogilvy. Despite bogies on 13 and 14, two birdies on 15 and 16 Singh was one stroke behind Ogilvy going into 18. Singh’s approach shot finished on the fringe of the 18th green leaving a makeable chip. His chip finished a foot short of the hole assuring Ogilvy of the win. Singh said, "Geoff played well. I have to give him credit. He hit a lot of great shots and putted nicely. Somebody had to win, somebody had to lose."

Ogilvy went on to par all holes on the back nine. Looking back at the names directly behind him on the leaderboard Ogilvy’s win is even more impressive. "There was a fair bit of some talent on the top 10 of the leaderboard. It’s pretty nice to come in in front of them, ending the streak. It was going to end at some point. I’m very glad that I did it. It’s a nice place to do it, too, because he’s obviously owned this place for the last few years," said Ogilvy.

WITB Time Machine: Phil Mickelson’s winning WITB, 2021 PGA Championship

Phil Mickelson made history at the 2021 PGA Championship on Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course. At 50, he became the oldest player to win a major, breaking Julius Boros’s record. Starting the final round with a slim lead, Lefty faced tough competition from Brooks Koepka and Louis Oosthuizen. He pulled ahead with key birdies and a standout 366-yard drive on the 16th hole. Finishing 6 under par and two shots ahead, Mickelson claimed his sixth major and second PGA Championship. Many saw his win as an inspiring comeback, showing that experience and determination can still lead to victory in professional golf — and, sometimes, age is just a number.

2026 PGA Championship betting odds

Scottie Scheffler leads the betting ahead of the second major championship of the year, with the World Number One a +345 favorite to get his hands on a second PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy who won the Masters back in April is a +800 shot to complete half of the calendar slam at Aronimink Golf Club this week, while Jordan Spieth can be backed at +5900 to become a career grand slam winner.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
