Lessons Learned: DJ Wins The BMW Championship

In a year where he has been knocking on the door time after time it’s no surprise that Dustin Johnson secured his 2^nd win of the season on Sunday at the BMW Championship. And this time a whole new approach is what really paid off for the player best known for ripping a golf course apart with an assault of all out bomb and gouge golf.

With the searing memories of losses at Pebble Beach and Whistling Straits on his resume this year Johnson has done the mature thing and grown from those experiences. The payoff of the changes made because of the circumstances of those championships came today near Chicago.

A much relieved Johnson (68-70-68-69-275) beat out Paul Casey (69-69-69-69-276) by just a stroke at Cog Hill. Casey looked unstoppable early in the day as he charged to a multiple stroke lead but then let the field back in with three straight bogeys on the back nine. While he struggled Johnson capitalized with a timely birdie on the 71^st hole to propel him to his second win of 2010 and 2^nd place in FedEx Cup standings as the Tour Championship looms in two weeks.

“Well, it was a great day. You know, to finally get it done, especially after all the things I've gone through this summer, to finally get it done on Sunday, it can't feel any better, especially I played really good golf today. I didn't make as many birdies as I would have liked to, but I made just enough,” said Johnson after receiving the trophy and the winner’s check of $1.35 million.

As proud as the 26 year-old Columbia, South Carolina native was of the win he was even more pleased about how he accomplished the feat. “You know, I felt like I really stayed in the moment. I didn't get ahead of myself. I tried not to watch the leader board too much. You know, I really did a good job of just being patient.”

Johnson readily admits that he has not had a lot of patience in his game until this year, a change sparked primarily by his disastrous U.S Open experience where his final round could be called nothing less than a meltdown of epic proportions. Asked if what he had learned at Pebble Beach had contributed to today’s win Johnson was in full agreement that it had. “Well, Pebble taught me a lot, I think. That's where I learned the most is I think after getting off to a rough start, I kind of maybe got a little fast. I played — everything starts moving fast in a situation like that. You know, so I really learned to be patient and not rush things. I didn't rush any shot today. You know, I took my time, took practice swings, even when I — a few times I felt myself trying to rush a little bit, but I would stop, put my club back in the bag and come back and go through my routine and just take things slow.”

With seven top ten finishes Johnson has plenty of momentum headed into the Tour Championship and has to be considered a threat to win the FedEx Cup and the $10 million that goes with it. A possibility not lost of Johnson. “To have a shot to win it, you can't ask for anything else. You know, that's the goal coming into the Playoffs. I knew I was in a good situation. You definitely want to be in that top 5 because if you win and you're in the top 5, then you get the $10 million. That would look nice in the bank account.”

Johnson has made a lot of nice trips to the bank this year but if he stays patient and continue to allow his immense talent shine through his next visit might be the best one yet.

What is Lorem Ipsum?

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Why do we use it?

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

2026 PGA Championship betting odds

Scottie Scheffler leads the betting ahead of the second major championship of the year, with the World Number One a +345 favorite to get his hands on a second PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy who won the Masters back in April is a +800 shot to complete half of the calendar slam at Aronimink Golf Club this week, while Jordan Spieth can be backed at +5900 to become a career grand slam winner.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
