Jason Bohn “had no idea” he was having a major heart attack at the Honda Classic

Published

Jason Bohn was taken to the hospital following Friday’s round at last week’s Honda Classic, and it was later revealed that the 42-year-old had suffered a major heart attack — and he didn’t even know it was happening.

Amid a flurry of thoughts and prayers from his fellow Tour pros, journalists, and fans came initial reports from the PGA Tour that Bohn had suffered a mild heart attack and was resting comfortably at the Palm Beach Medical Center.

However, the No. 71-ranked golfer in the world — who made the cut on Friday at the Honda Classic and later withdrew — told SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio from his hospital bed that his situation was much dire. Doctors discovered that Bohn had a 99 percent blockage of his left anterior descending artery that required the insertion of a stent.

Bohn offered some interesting perspective.

“The craziest part of the whole situation is that I had no idea that I was having a heart attack. I would have thought having a heart attack was like… somebody slapping you in the face, ‘you’re having a heart attack, you need to stop doing what you’re doing.’ For me it wasn’t the case.

“My doctors all have told me that had I passed out or gone down on the golf course that they really don’t think they would have had time to get the proper blood thinners in me — and put the stent in that they were able to do — in time.

“I got one hell of a mulligan. That’s all I can say.”

Went thru the same, heart attack, stent into vein. Had heart attack in hospital emergency room. Able to get blood thinners, aspirin, nitro into me then felt good till angiogram and stent 24 hrs later. Took no drugs prior, blood pressure was good, cholesterol was good, no overweight and active. Lucky I had Little damage to the heart. All I had was heartburn I could not get rid of it. No idea. My Dr did not believe it. Good luck man. I know what you went thru !

Had a similar situation 7 years ago. Glad you are fine as it could have been much worse. Its always better to ask for help in these situations. I felt pretty good and could have went home to bed. Good thing I asked for help and they called 911. I flatlined in the ambulance and am fine now. 98 % blockage in one artery and they put in a stint.

My man Jason was very lucky. And all of us here in GA are glad he’ll be ok. I’ll see Jason every once in a while at the club we both are members at in Acworth and he’s always in a cheerful, talkative mood. One of the nicest, all around best human beings I’ve been around.

JB, we gotta get you on the gym and cardio train my friend. Hope to see you striping it again soon…
