9 Revealing photos from the 2016 Barracuda Championship

GolfWRX was live this week from the 2016 Barracuda Championship — most recently known as the Reno-Tahoe Open — at Montreux Golf and Country Club in Reno, Nevada. If you missed any of the photos from this week, make sure to browse the galleries in the links below.
Known as the “Biggest Little City in the World,” Reno is near both Lake Tahoe, and the Sierra Nevadas. That sets a beautiful landscape for low scores, or should I say high scores, in this Modified Stableford format, which the tournament adopted in 2012.
Now, it’s time for the Biggest Little Revealing photos in golf.
The Sierra scenery
I told you, it’s a beautiful landscape to play golf, and hopefully make a bunch of birdies. Here’s a gallery full of awesome photos of Montreux G&CC taken by our Tour photographer, Greg Moore a.k.a. Pga43.
No excuses
If the players miss their tee-time, they can’t blame the clocks since it clearly states this is not the official time. But it does make you wonder, what’s the point of this big clock by the putting green if that’s not going to be the official clock.
What’s in the bag?
I’m stumped on this one. It looks like the bottom of a Ski Pole, which may actually make sense given the proximity to the Sierra Nevadas.
Upon further investigation… yea it still looks like a Ski Pole, but with a golf grip on it.
And a tennis ball in this bag? Skiers and tennis players?! I’m not sure what’s going on this week in Reno, but it’s proving the case that golfers indeed can be multi-sport athletes.
Golf is difficult
Thoughout the Revealing Photos series, we’ve proven time and time again that golf is difficult, even for the best golfers in the world. Just look at the training aids and alignment assisters they need to hone their games.
Rulers, yardstick, t-squares, levels, sticks, rope and just about whatever helps get the job done.
What hope do us normal golfers have?
Rocco Mediate, the OG WRXer
Rocco may be on board with the newest, hottest technology on the market in PXG, but he’s still sticking to his roots as one of the innovators in customized equipment.
He may have lost to Tiger Woods in the epic Battle at Torrey Pines, but he still wins in the heart of the gear heads for this awesome WITB setup.
Dog toy headcovers
Some players have head covers that look like their dogs, while Dicky Pride has a head cover that’s actually a toy his dog uses. Now that’s puppy love.
U.S. Kids cart path tees
You don’t want to take a big divot off of this tee box or you’ll ruin your club.
Judge Smails WITB
Who knew that Smails was bagging an Odyssey Works Rossie II, which came out in 2015, 35 years after the movie aired. I always knew Caddyshack was ahead of its time.
The Ol’ Billy Baroo is, of course, in reference to this putt — one of the most clutch putts in not only movie history, but in golfing history.
The Ancer
This stamping from Abraham Ancer is a hilarious, and fitting, spin on NBA great Allen Iverson’s nickname: The Answer. You may remember Iverson as the “We talkin bout practice” guy.
But don’t forget he was one of the best “little guards” to ever play.
Maybe Abraham will too go down as one of the greats… hopefully he practices a bit more though, golf is a pretty exacting game.

Below are the results of GolfWRX member voting for the 2025 best driver, along with the vote percentage for each club.
Best driver of 2025: The top 5
5. Callaway Elyte Triple Diamond: 6.02%
Callaway’s pitch: “For golfers looking for a fast, forgiving, yet workable driver, the Elyte Triple Diamond features a tour-inspired shape and is the preferred model by most Callaway tour players.”
You can read what other golfers are saying about the driver in the GolfWRX forums, and see our launch piece here. Shop the Callaway Elyte Triple Diamond here.
4. Ping G440 Max: 6.86%
Ping’s pitch: “The most forgiving G440 model, MAX has a hotter face to generate speed and distance, and a lighter overall system weight with a longer shaft (46″) for faster clubhead speed, higher launch and longer carries. The Free Hosel and Carbonfly Wrap crown save weight to create our lowest CG ever and increase forgiveness while contributing to a more muted, pleasing sound.”

3. Ping G440 LST: 9.53%
Ping’s pitch: “LST is an especially good fit for faster swings, offering less spin and more control with a penetrating trajectory. A hotter face, lighter overall system weight and longer shaft (46″) deliver more speed and distance while maintaining tight dispersion.”
@phizzy30: “Not a fan of Ping drivers in general, but 440 LST takes the cake. It’s super forgiving across the face for a low spin head, looks and sounds good and the ability to make it play neutral or slightly fade biased through the hosel settings is very appealing.”

2. Titleist GT3: 16.55%
Titleist’s pitch: “The GT3 Driver offers Titleist’s boldest combination of power and personalization through adjustable performance. Dial in the CG Track to your frequent contact location to make your biggest drives even bigger while taking total control over flight and shaping.”
@mrmikeac: “I’ve been Anti-Titleist for years and years and years (outside of Vokey, of course). With that being said, HOLY BEGEEZUS the GT3 driver is an absolute NUCLEAR MONSTER! This thing blew my G430 10K Max out of the water in every single category. Forgiveness is the biggest thing that stands out of me, the 3 model has always been one of the less forgiving models in the past but this GT3 can take bad shot after bad shot and still end up in the fairway, I think a ton of that has to do with the adjustability, it’s actually effective. Feel and sound is perfect, that solid crack is so addicting to hear and when you hit it out the screws this thing can absolutely bomb it. Titleist, I’m sorry for doubting you. You have converted me.”

1. Titleist GT2: 22.91%
Titleist’s pitch: “Delivering impressive distance from any impact point, the Titleist GT2 Driver extracts maximum performance through a forgiving design. Get the stability and added confidence of a high-MOI driver without sacrificing speed.”
@DTorres: “The Titleist GT2 has proven to be the best driver of the year. Packaged in a classic profile, GT2 perfectly balances performance and forgiveness while consistently being a high performer across all categories.”
