Tour Mash: Badds wins Barbasol, Ko takes Marathon Classic
There was golf outside of Scotland this week, plenty of it. We had playoffs on two tours and drama galore. Without further delay, here’s this week’s tour mash.
Barbasol Championship riches and spoils go to Badds
After shooting 65-60 to open the week in Alabama, Jhonattan Vegas is kicking himself tonight. A pair of 70s would have won the event, but Vegas forgot how he did what he did and posted 72-72 for a T4 finish. His wobble left the door open for a number of golfers to claim a win opposite The Open Championship in Scotland. Michael Johnson, a newly-minted professional, rewarded the sponsor’s exemption with a magnificent 17-under par performance to place third alone. Si Woo Kim came to the final hole at 19-under, but bogeyed. After making bogey on the 15th, Aaron Baddeley birdied Nos. 16 and 17 to tie Kim and off to a playoff they went.
Five years since Aaron Baddeley's last win. You'd hardly know it based on this reaction… https://t.co/XrdLVEFXtl

As they prepared to tee off, the clouds broke and rain began to fall. Kim and Baddeley battled through four playoff holes until Baddeley finally canned a long birdie putt for the win, his first in five years.
Flores holds on for Web.com’s Lincoln Land Charity title
Wesley Bryan held a slim lead over Martin Flores on Saturday evening. He knew that 1-under wouldn’t be enough to win, but unfortunately for the year’s money leader, that’s precisely what he posted. After making 19 birdies and 1 eagle over the first three days, Bryan could only scrape three birdies against two bogeys on Sunday, and Flores passed him by to win by two. Bryan ended the tournament tied with Jonathan Randolph, Casey Wittenberg and JT Poston at 20-under par, two behind Flores. The champion made two birdies and an eagle on the outward nine to assume the lead, then held on with even par over the final nine holes to cinch his first victory of the season and move to the 4th spot on the money list.
Marathon Classic to Ko in playoff
If there’s one thing to be said for the LPGA, it’s this: never boring, always dramatic. Last week they gave us the aggregate, 3-hole playoff at the U.S. Women’s Open. This week, Lydia Ko, Ariya Jutanugarn and Mirim Lee decided to extend the weekend a bit and play four extra holes. The trio tied at 14-under in regulation, although each had multiple opportunities to pull away and win before extra time. In the playoff, the 18th hole was played four times, with pars by each of the combatants until Ko made birdie to end the overtime.

Ko and Jutanugarn were bidding to become the first, four-time winner on the LPGA Tour in 2016. Hyo Joo Kim, the third-round leader, struggle early and then made a comeback on the inward half, but fell one stroke shy of joining the playoff.
Staal Foundation title goes to Moore
Taylor Moore, who graduated this spring from the University of Arkansas, found himself matched again Austin Connelly and Corey Conners, two of Canada’s finest young talents, in the final round of the MacKenzie Tour-PGA Canada’s Staal Foundation Open in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Conners was a U.S. Amateur finalist in 2014, while Connelly turned down a scholarship to play golf at … you guessed it, the University of Arkansas, in order to turn professional. Moore closed with matching 66s on the weekend to win by three over Conners, with Connelly another stroke back, in third place.
Fred Olsen Challenge in hands of Saddier
A score of 59 doesn’t guarantee victory on any professional golf tour, not even the European Tour’s Challenge Series. Since Al Geiberger first broke into the 50s, the vast majority of achievers have not gone on to win the event. Add the name of Nicolo Ravano to that list.
The magic moment!@NicoloRavano holes out for an eagle two on 18 for a historic 59 at the #challengedeespanahttps://t.co/8X9SYeO5h8
— Challenge Tour (@Challenge_Tour) July 15, 2016
The young Italian holed out from the fairway on Friday’s final hole to shoot 59 on the Tecina Golf course in the Canary Islands. Although he took a lead into the weekend, it was Adrien Saddier of France who took the title. Saddier’s opening 61 took second-page news after Ravano’s miraculous hole-out, but a closing 63 gave him the title by three strokes over Ravano, who signed for 67 on Sunday.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.
The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.

The pair managed pars at the first three play-off holes before returning to the h for a third time and Baddeley made a 24-foot birdie putt to secure the win.

Badds used McGregor years ago then switched to Adams so he must be a free agent given he wears a clean hat! Quite unusual to see a plain logo free hat these days.
