Tiger Woods announces when he’s coming back
Golf fans, rejoice! In a statement posted to his website this morning, Tiger Woods confirmed that he will indeed play golf during the 2016-2017 season.
Woods announced he expects to play in the Safeway Open, Oct. 13-16 at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa.
The 14-time major champion also said he also expects to compete in the Turkish Airlines Open during the first week of November in Turkey, as well as his foundation’s Hero World Challenge, which is held the first week of December.
First though, he’ll participate in the Tiger Woods Invitational, “one of the best private golf events in the country,” Oct. 10 at Pebble Beach.
“My rehabilitation is to the point where I’m comfortable making plans, but I still have work to do,” Tiger said. “Whether I can play depends on my continued progress and recovery. My hope is to have my game ready to go.
“I’m looking forward to going to California for my foundation event and Safeway. I’m also excited to return to Turkey and Albany. It could be a fun fall It was difficult missing tournaments that are important to me, but this time I was smart about my recovery and didn’t rush it.
It was great spending time with my children Sam and Charlie, and also working on a lot of projects including golf-course design, the upcoming 20th anniversary of my foundation and my book about the 1997 Masters. But I missed competing. I want to thank all the fans for their kindness and concern. I’ve been a pro about 20 years, and their support has never waned.”
Woods hasn’t teed it up on the PGA Tour since the Wyndham Championship last year and has spent this golf season rehabilitating and recovery from a pair of microdiscectomy operations last fall.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.
The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.

He’ll play TGR irons, made by pxgeezus.
He’s going to get through 3/4 to 1.5 rounds and w/d.

I’m glad he is coming back. The Tour is better with him playing. I don’t expect him to start playing great right away and I really hope he recovers and does’t get injured again. Go Tiger!

Tiger may return to play but unfortunately for him father time will be one of his toughest opponents, and the other will be his ego. Tiger’s cannot tolerate playing badly and the amount of time that it would take to get back into even being somewhat competitive would unbearable for him. I think when that happens, he will subconsciously sabotage himself, such as re-injuring his back and then having to bow out completely because of it. His best days are behind him and there is no way physically and psychologically for him to come back to where he was before. The one thing he has now that he never had when he was winning is DOUBT, and that will always be in the back of his mind on the tee box.
Mac
Sep 9, 2016 at 11:31 am
Yep. His ego will be so tapping him on his shoulder so much he won’t let himself play stiff flex instead of X flex to swing easy to 290 instead of trying to crush it to 330, and he will refuse to play an easy hybrid and will try to muscle a 3 iron, and hurt his body and his ego in the process, like always. Like that time when he joked about how he’s going to have to start using a 5 wood instead of his 2 iron. What an eejit, thinking he’s so macho that people actually cared what clubs he plays.
Joe

Your ego is in denial as well. People care what clubs he plays and so do you for remembering details in reference to his 2 iron 5 wood comment.

Father time won’t be the toughest one in my opinion (I believe Phil had quite a run at one of those opens). Any one that plays this game at a high level understands it is you vs you. Yes, you have to beat the course, the field, etc. However, as they say, ‘Competitive golf is played mainly on a five-and-a-half-inch course… the space between your ears.’

Tiger was a major influence in why my second oldest son plays golf. He read everything having to do with how Tiger practiced, how to played, and prepared. I don’t care who Tiger is as a person, only as a golfer. He has a private life as we all do, and what he does, is between him and his God. I only care to know the golfer. I wish him well, that he remains healthy and plays to his best ability. I miss seeing Tiger play on the tour again, don’t really follow as much now since Tiger stopped. My best wishes to Tiger the golfer!!!

Tiger Woods is the best that ever did it in my opinion. Tiger Woods is human and we all make mistakes at times in our lives. I don’t like the people nor the media who builds him up and then to tear him down. I hope and pray that when he returns he competes and win! I say to Tiger be who you are no matter what people say. It’s time to crush records…

Tiger’s annual schedule since ’08:
Surgery.
Jazz hands return.
Rd1: 77.
Rd2: sore back.
8 months of call of duty.
Rinse. Repeat.
So sad. All this fan fare for the past 8 years, a whole lot of disappointment. Hope the best for the guy, but anyone really, HONESTLY think a 40 year old, heavily surgically repaired Tiger is going to compete? So sick of seeing EVERY shot he hits on the range. Hearing what he ate for breakfast. If he passed gas before the 1st tee……..can we calm the heck down and see if his body can hold up before we blow our minds over this same old story???? So sick of the Tiger soap opera.

It’s unfortunate that pro golfers such as Eldrick are not able to get in some rehab work in Pittsburgh Double A ball, Altoona (baseball reference for my Canadian brothers) before they tee it up under the
white hot lights of the strongest players on the planet and the sharpest tongues among desk jockies.
Get in a few rounds over, under par, work out the tournament pressure kinks, etc. I’m sure the vulcher boo birds will be hovering above waiting for that first skanky shank FORE RIGHT!!! Should
make for good viewing, as he still appears to be the only golfer that can shut down a typically boring
news day on the Golf Ch., and move the needle. No pressure Eldrick, just fairways and greens bruh!!

This is great news!! The tournament is going to need to print off a lot more tickets!! They are going to have record crowds there just to watch him. I wonder what Johnny Miller is going to have to say about Tiger when he plays? Didn’t he (co)design Silverado?
Hopefully he plays well, but also to take it easy and not try and do crazy things that would hurt his back. Looking forward to watching him play again.

Sep 7, 2016 at 10:27 pm
Tiger runs the show with his “team” He would never let his caddy work for someone else temporarily (or do it and be OK with it). I’m sure he’s compensating Joe, but he sure as hell isn’t letting him work in the meantime. Tiger is (was) a great golfer, but he’s not the best character guy on tour. I put Tiger on par with the likes of MJ….great at their craft, fierce competitors, but both can be real dicks.
