Jason Day injures back, withdraws from BMW Championship

Last year’s BMW Championship winner Jason Day withdrew from the tournament Sunday afternoon with a back injury. Day started the day 5-under par, 13 shots back of leader Dustin Johnson. He was even par on the first eight holes at Crooked Stick, and withdrew on the 9th hole after hitting his tee shot.
According to Golf Channel’s Steve Sands, Day felt discomfort on the left side of his back while picking up his tee on No. 9. Day also dealt with back pain two weeks ago at The Barclays at Bethpage Black, as well as at the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship in March, which he won.
Day is the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world, but more importantly, he was No. 2 in FedExCup Points when he withdrew. Next week is an off week for the PGA Tour, but Day plans to play in the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake in two weeks, where he’ll have a chance to win the FedExCup and its $10 million bonus.
Update: Despite the withdraw, Day will still enter the Tour Championship in the No. 4 position in the FedExCup. He trails FedExCup leader Dustin Johnson by 1780 points.

I do believe Day has back issues. I think he may play a lot of times when he shouldn’t, just to give it a shot, then drops out when he’s tired and out of the running. I’ve dealt with back issues for a very long time, and they really, really suck. That being said, Day is still young, and would be wise to get things figured out before it’s a real detriment to his career.
Also, I sort of doubt that anyone out there feel’s 100%. Ror’s mentioned once, one single time, that he has a couple vertebrate that are messed up, but he never uses it as an excuse. IMO, if Day’s back is bad enough to withdraw from misc tournaments, it’s probably bad enough on a regular basis that he needs to get some medical attention for the longevity of his career. That is all with respect to giving him the benefit of the doubt in this situation, because I feel for him.
However, when he’s not winning, and sometimes, even when he is, he always has issues. “Tired”, “bit of a cold”, “stomach bug”, etc.. In relation to Day, it’s getting pretty consistent. He’s overcome adversity in his life, and good on him for doing so. I mean it. But playing golf through a cold is not that, and it’s time to keep the small, nagging things on the down low. If I hear an golf commentator remark at the spectacle of one’s performance while battling through the sniffles, I just may throw my TV.

I think people will start to wonder if Day is faking and over-dramatizing if he keeps only getting injured or shocking distractions when he isn’t dominating the field. Everyone has known someone like that growing up, just it’s a little weird seeing at this level. It’s similar to how most professional fighters reveal an injury they had leading into the fight they just lost. Or that person who is always sick and missing work. Same unwillingness to just fight through the lesser amazijg times.

Too bad to hear he’s hurt yet again. He’s great to watch and seems very likeable on tour. But I can’t remember anyone getting hurt as much as he does. Maybe it’s the violent speed that he hits the ball on most swings that contributes to his injury prone career so far? For someone that’s really in shape he is hurt way too much. Hopefully he can be ready for Atlanta.

Your comment was not neutral. It can only come from experience in knowing how to do those behaviors with pre-planned thought processes.
I wouldn’t know, I’ve never thought about those things in those terms
