JD to me is what USA is all about. Coming from an Asian country, I was bored watching the no personality brits and euros. When JD appeared on the scene, this was somebody I could relate to- humble upbringing, from the country- anti-country club. We love this guy and his feck it approach on the tee box. Golf NEEDS more guys like JD on tour, and less whiny bishes like Jordan Spieth.

Gimme a break! JD is most assuredly NOT what the USA is all about.

Is there anything we haven’t heard before? We all know his story, as if he’s been dealt some cruel hard-luck life. He’s created all of his own problems. I don’t view him as heroic in any sense of the word. I wish him well but I don’t see his life story as compelling at all. There’s no redemption nor is there a happy ending. All I see is waste and wreckage. To blame it on a poor childhood is a big cop-out imho. Everybody I know has had it “tough”…but without a hundred million dollars that would have made it easier. Money and success does not necessarily have to be a curse. It’s interesting that this coincides with all we’ve been reminded of lately about Arnold Palmer’s life…the antithesis of JDs. Kudos to him for his generosity, when he’s shown it but shame on him for the waste and somehow trying to glorify his “I did it my way” rocky road as somehow cool or noble. I really hope he cleans up his act before it’s all said and done.

The guy has been pretty normal for the last 6-7 years. I don’t think he even drinks anymore. “Cleaning up his act” may refer to his golf game which is no longer good, but the guy seems to be pretty stable and for as long of a period we’ve ever seen. I think it’s wrong to say he’s still a knucklehead because he drinks a ton of diet cokes, smokes cigarettes and is overweight. If he was winning right now people would all be talking about his “redemption”, but because he doesn’t contend at all anymore you think it’s because he’s still a drunk.

i completely agree. with the John Daly series ( i think two seasons) on the golf channel and the multiple vignettes that have been done on the guy, i feel his story has pretty much been told. Maybe that is just because I am an avid golf fan maybe for the casual fan he is still pretty mystical. i dunno.

waste and wreckage is what sells commercials, not sweet and innocent

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
