Tiger Woods commits to Genesis Open at Riviera

We last saw Tiger Woods in action in an up-and-down comeback effort at the limited-field Hero World Challenge, which ended on Dec. 4. And, because he’s Tiger Woods, it wasn’t long after he rolled in his final putt that speculation began as to when/where the former world No. 1 would tee it up again.

Today, Woods confirmed we will see him at the Genesis Open at Riviera Country Club, Feb. 16 to 19.

“I’m very excited to come back to Riviera and compete in the Genesis Open,” Woods said. “This is where it all started for me. It was my first PGA TOUR event. I was 16 years old, I weighed about 105 pounds. It was a life-changing moment for me.”

With Woods’ foundation as the host of the former Northern Trust Open, it’s no great shock that the man at the center of the TGR empire will be in the field.

The Genesis Open likely won’t be the next time we see Woods in action though. Certainly, the Farmers Insurance Open (Jan. 26-29) at Torrey Pines is a likely addition to Woods’ calendar. And the Feb. 2-5 Waste Management Phoenix Open and Feb. 9-12 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am are other possibilities.

Regarding where TW will tee it up prior to his (presumed) appearance at Torrey Pines, Yahoo’s Jay Busbee wrote:

“International tournaments, with their incredibly lucrative seven-figure appearance fees, throw a bit of complication into the scheduling business. The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, for instance, take place the week before and the week after the Farmers Insurance Open, meaning Woods would have to fly literally halfway around the world to play in consecutive weeks.”

So, there’s that element to consider as well. Regardless, we now know another time we’ll see Tiger Woods in action, and that’s a good thing for all of us in the 79-time PGA Tour winner’s orbit.

    I agree Mike, why not just let him be unless you are generally afraid of any good performance out of him again. Him doing well can be the only reason one would not want to see him in action, and fearing that outcome, people just have to be in denial and spew garbage to make themselves feel better about it. He’s one of the best of all time, he’s still playing in tournaments, and he’s still good at golf, get over it. Until he’s 50, or WD’s again, negative comments are best kept to yourself cause like it or not, as the needle governing golf conversation/viewership, the media will continue covering him. They have to, and with good reason….

    It continues to baffle me how people continue to hate on Tiger, re: ooffa. He’s so good for golf and so exciting to watch. In his first event back he made more birdies than anyone! That’s incredible!

2026 PGA Championship betting odds

Scottie Scheffler leads the betting ahead of the second major championship of the year, with the World Number One a +345 favorite to get his hands on a second PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy who won the Masters back in April is a +800 shot to complete half of the calendar slam at Aronimink Golf Club this week, while Jordan Spieth can be backed at +5900 to become a career grand slam winner.
