Wednesday’s Photos from The 2017 Players Championship

GolfWRX is live this week from the 2017 Players Championship, which is commonly referred to as the “fifth major” due its prominence and typically strong field. The event is held each year at TPC Sawgrass (Stadium Course) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and will play as a 7,189-yard par 72.

As always, the island green at No. 17 will provide much of the entertainment and attention — 36 total golf balls found the surrounding water in 2016’s event — but a slew of changes to look out for were made to the Stadium Course for 2017.

“The narrow water hazard between Nos. 6 and 7 has been expanded into a rectangular lake, removing several trees in the vicinity,” according to PGATour.com. “More significant is No. 12, which has been turned into a drivable par-4 with both fairway and green sloping toward a new water hazard on the left.”

The field features 24 of the top-25 golfers in the Official World Golf Rankings, headlined by Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy, the world’s No. 1 and 2-ranked golfers, respectively. Jason Day (No. 3) comes in as the defending champion after leading wire-to-wire to capture the 2016 Players Championship.

GolfWRX is on site this week for the final event of the 2025 FedEx Cup Playoffs: the Tour Championship

30 players will tee it up this week at East Lake, looking to get their hands on the Tour Championship as well as the FedEx Cup, which comes with a paycheck of $10 million. So far, we have plenty of photos for you to peruse, including Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Viktor Hovland WITBs.

GolfWRX was on site for the golf business’s annual winter rite: the PGA Merchandise Show.

While the weather was less than cooperative for demo day, there were no such difficulties inside the Orange County Convention Center. This isn’t to say there weren’t significant figurative headwinds influencing this year’s Show, but those are widely discussed elsewhere. Our duty here was merely to document, and that is what we did to the tune of more than 1,500 photos, below.
