     A tipped shaft is stiffer than the designation, and it changes the deflection curve (basically, it makes the shaft more tip-stiff, with higher deflection point, all other things being equal).

     “tipping” means getting rid of the unstable portion of inherently unstable graphite shafts when swung at high speed.
     A tube made out of carbon fiber and epoxy plastic just doesn’t have the same consistent flex properties of a homogeneous steel shaft and shaft manufacturers have been struggling for decades to come up with a solution for the soggy floppy graphite golf shaft for the pros with their high speed swings.
     Graphite shafts are okay for the average golfer with a slow swing speed but not for high swing speed pros who would be okay with a steel shaft in their driver heads.

         My only question is why (other than memorabilia purposes)? I’ve putt just as good and got similar feel/feedback with a $100 TaylorMade as I did with a $400 custom Scotty.

           $40 George Low replica (no lines) with a Jack Nicklaus stamp put out by MacGregor 25 years ago, or a $35 Old Master 8802 replica (no line), and I’d jump in and putt for cokes with anybody here. Or 20 bucks.
