REPORT: Jim “Bones” Mackay to caddie for Justin Thomas at the Sony Open

Published

on

Bones is back! Well, at least for one week.

Per a live report on the Golf Channel, Phil Mickelson’s former caddie Jim “Bones” Mackay will caddie for Justin Thomas at the 2018 Sony Open in Hawaii.

JT’s longtime caddie, Jimmy Johnson, is reportedly battling plantar fasciitis and will be out for at least another month, according to the Golf Channel. Thomas’ father is on the bag this week at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, and as the Golf Channel reports, Bones will caddie for him at the Sony, but only for the week; not for the duration of Johnson’s absence.

Since July, Bones has been working as an on-course reporter for NBC/Golf Channel, but he agreed to carry JT’s bag at the Sony. This could be a good financial move for him, as well. Remember, JT torched Waialae Country Club by shooting 59 in the first round in 2017, and he went on to win by 7 shots.

What’s wrong with making money doing what you’re best at? This stigma with people making money is dumb.

You missed the point. The “good financial move” statement the author made is hardly relevant considering the time he spend with PM. A win might increase his net worth by 0.1%? Yea, good move. Calm down next time.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
