Leader Beljan is back on the course after a health scare

Published

on

Charlie Beljan is back on the course today at the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital Classic after spending the night at an Orlando-area hospital.

Beljan shot an 8-under 64 to take a three-shot overnight lead at the tournament, but he did so while battling shortness of breath, dizziness, chest pains, an increased heart rate and high blood pressure. His caddie, Rick Adcox, said Beljan also cited numbness in his arms.

Beljan was followed by medics on the back nine, and on several occasions went to the ground between shots to catch his breath. After signing his score card, he was attended to by medics and wheeled out on a stretcher into an ambulance.

Despite only an hour of sleep and doctors orders not to play, Beljan is on the Magnolia Course in Round 3. Beljan is currently ranked 139th on the money list, meaning he needs a good finish this week to finish in the top 125 of the money list, which would secure his PGA Tour Card for 2013.

After several tests, including blood work and a CAT scan, doctors were unable to find anything wrong with Beljan. He said that he had less severe episodes in recent weeks, and believes he may have suffered an anxiety attack.

”I’m still not feeling that great, but shoot, the position I’m in, it’s kind of hard not to show up,” Beljan said. “We’ll give it a whirl, give it our best shot.”

Beljan earned his PGA Tour in 2012 at Q-School last year. He made just eight cuts in 21 starts. His best finish came this year at The Greenbrier Classic, where he shot 14-under to finish tied for third.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
