An extremely rare (and ridiculous) interview with MLB superstar Mike Trout… about golf
Mike Trout is one of the best baseball players and hitters in Major League Baseball today. The 26-year-old, a 6-time MLB All-Star who currently plays for the Los Angeles Angels, is also on a tremendous streak of spectacular hitting at the moment. Over his last eight games, Trout is batting .696 with 11 walks, four HRs, and nine RBIs, making just seven outs in his last 36 plate appearances.
What people may not know is that Trout is also an avid golfer.
Recently, before the Angels vs. Royals game on June 4th — where Trout went 3-4 with 2 RBIs, of course — I caught up with Trout to talk some golf. Our instructions from Angels management were simple: we were allowed to interview Trout during his walk from the clubhouse until he got into the dugout. That made for one of the most ridiculous interviews of all-time, and certainly a test for our camera crew who had to navigate the Angels clubhouse walking backwards. But hey, a Mike Trout interview is rare… and a Mike Trout interview about golf is unheard of. Enjoy the video (transcription below)!
Andrew Tursky: When did you start playing golf and why?
Mike Trout: Playing golf? Probably in high school. I just enjoyed it. It’s obviously hard. I like to compete and I enjoy playing it.
AT: What’s one thing you would change about the game of golf?
MT: Change about the game of golf? I don’t know if I would change anything, I like it.
AT: How does golf get more young people involved, how do you make a little bit cooler?
MT: A little bit cooler? I’m not sure. Golf’s a tough sport to get kids into because it’s really very challenging. But I wish I would have started at a younger age for sure, knowing how fun the game is.
AT: Where do you get more nervous, the first tee or the batter’s box?
MT: Oh first tee, for sure. You know baseball, I prepare myself everyday. At golf, I just golf on the off day. I don’t know how they do it, in the pros. It’s incredible.
AT: Alright thank you, play well.
MT: Appreciate it.

Club Junkie WITB, week 15: Tied for first in league!
Right now, I am tied for first place in my league! Don’t worry, the wheels will fall off as we get further into the year, but let’s keep the train rolling with 14 brand new clubs this week. We are off on the back nine again, so the driver is back in, and the 7-wood is out, as the course dictates what clubs I tend not to use. Excited to get these New Level irons out there and see if I can catch some of that driver magic I had down at Pinehurst with the Wilson Dynapwr+.
