Sorry, Steve, but apparently we do things a LOT more casually at the private courses out west here in Seattle. This summer I played at least a half-dozen very private clubs in the area including Sahalee and “home to Tour pro’s” Aldarra and NOT ONCE did I find anyone waiting to take my clubs, offer a drink or show me to the range or pro shop. And, frankly, that’s the way I like it. Perhaps it’s different where you work, a Private/Resort-type outfit but from the sound of things, there’s a guy with his hand out around every corner. What guest (or member) needs to worry that they have enough bills on hand so they can “duke” the help? I don’t want my visit to a private club to feel like I’m checking into a Las Vegas hotel. Oakland Hills sounds completely normal. Lighten up!

This is totally on the host/member. Staff did not even know you were coming. When the staff member checked the sheet your name wasn’t on it. Not their fault.

Jack hit a 1-iron on #17 in 1972…come on guys!
Sure the bag drop guy at Oakland Hills dropped the ball, but your host was worse. He should have made sure that the everything was done right when you got there. That’s private club 101 for a host – be there before your guest and make sure things go well.
