Blunder leads to cruel DQ for European Tour hopeful at Q-School

Another day, another rules controversy. Earlier this month, we reported on a crushing penalty that resulted in European Tour hopeful Gian-Marco Petrozzi missing out on the final stage of Q-School, and now an even more devastating rules infraction has cost yet another golfer his chance of competing on the European Tour.

The incident occurred in the final stage of Q-School at Lumine Golf Club in Spain, where Englishman Tom Murray looked to be well on his way to securing his European Tour privileges for 2019. The world number 369 had opened the six-round event with rounds of 66 and 70, but after signing for an incorrect scorecard, Murray saw his hopes shattered with a brutal disqualification.

It was Murray’s second round scorecard of 70 which proved costly, despite recording the total on his card accurately. The Englishman had scored two of his scores incorrectly, marking one too high and one too low, resulting in a disqualification for an incorrect scorecard. Murray took to social media after the event to state what had occurred, while also taking personal accountability for the error.

So we’re leaving Q School having been DQd. Signed for 70 which was correct but two holes were incorrect, one higher one lower. My fault completely but still just as horrible. Rough end to the season but we will be back stronger ???????? @ETQSchool

The R&A and the USGA moved to modernize the rules of golf earlier this year, making a number of changes that will come into effect in 2019. However, there is still a large percentage of golf fans that would like to see an even more significant overhaul to the rules of golf, especially with the latest run of seemingly innocuous infringements.

Whether scoring is digital or written I think it’s still up to the players to record a correct score. I dont see this as an innocuous infringement.

In this digital world its beyond me why scores can’t be tracked this way. This whole scorecard thing should be abolished.

    Typically in pro events there is a video record of all shots, therefore a player’s shots can be checked. But I’m sure in Euro Q school that there were far less cameras (if any) than a televised PGA Tour event.

      Not even close. This is Euro tour school, not the British Open. And even at the British, there isn’t a camera on every shot.

  I agree with C, Video replay has nothing to do with this. My issue with the entire situation is that A, his playing partner(the person keeping his score) should be the one getting disqualified, I played collegiately and after a tournament round you go over your scores hole by hole with the person that kept your score, if that person screwed up on your scorecard then you have to catch it. That is your own responsibility. When people talk about modernizing the rules of golf this should not be something that ever gets brought up. It is your own fault if you signed an incorrect scorecard even if the numbers add up to the same score in the end. This is an issue regarding somebodies ability to read over their own scorecard and make sure their scores are correct.

What is Lorem Ipsum?

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Why do we use it?

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

2026 PGA Championship betting odds

Scottie Scheffler leads the betting ahead of the second major championship of the year, with the World Number One a +345 favorite to get his hands on a second PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy who won the Masters back in April is a +800 shot to complete half of the calendar slam at Aronimink Golf Club this week, while Jordan Spieth can be backed at +5900 to become a career grand slam winner.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
