Russell Henley WITB 2013

Published

on

PGA Tour Rookie Russell Henley shot rounds of 63-63-67-63 to win his first Tour event, the Sony Open. The 23-year-old University of Georgia alumni shot a back-nine 29 that included five straight birdies to separate himself by three shots from runner-up Tim Clark.

Henley’s score of 24-under 256 set the Sony Open record for the lowest total score in tournament history. Here’s a list of the 14 Nike clubs he was carrying in the bag this week:

Driver: Nike VR_S (9.5 degrees) with a Graphite Design HD-7X Shaft

Fairway: Nike SQ Sumo (13 degrees)

Hybrid: Nike VR Pro (18 degrees)

Irons: Nike VR Pro Cavity (3 iron through 6 iron), Nike VR Pro Combo (7 through 9 iron)

Wedges: Nike VR Pro (47, 53 and 59 degrees)

Putter: Nike Method 006 Prototype

Ball: Nike 20XI X

His 3-6 irons are VR Cast, not the VR Pro Cavity.

Does anyone know what shafts he plays in his irons?

What a great start to the career of Russell Henley and continuing the trend from 2012 with a first time winner.

His putting was tremendous, especially during the last round when he holed some clutch putts.

This was another great advertisement for Nike golf equipment during a year with so many top professionals changing over.

It looked like he was playing the VRs driver not the covert. And I thought he had the cast vr irons.
