GolfWRX Spotted: Ping G425 Drivers at the CJ Cup
After a big week on the European Tour with a win by Tyrrell Hatton, it was only a matter of time before the Ping G425 MAX and G425 LST drivers along with the corresponding fairway woods, made their way stateside and into the bags of players on the PGA Tour.
This week at the CJ Cup at Shadow Creek, we are getting the first in-hand look at the entire line, and we can expect to see players put these in play right away to get in “reps” since we are now less than 30 days away from the Masters in November.
Ping G425 MAX
When it comes to drivers and fairway woods, the name “MAX” means MAXimum MOI and forgiveness, and it appears the new Ping G425 MAX is doing just that, with a large tungsten weight along the trailing edge as far away from the face as possible. The G425 MAX also has a flat sole to get as much mass low in the elongated shape to produce extremely high MOI numbers.
The one interesting change is the movable weight along the back of the head travels an overall smaller distance from the fade to draw setting, but this is possible because the weight is heavier meaning they can condense the adjustability without sacrificing the desired center of gravity placements.
Ping G425 LST – Low Spin Technology
The G425 LST is designed to lower spin while also maintaining the highest MOI possible. From the information available the driver comes in at 445cc vs the MAX at 460cc, and visually the driver is shorter front to back to create a center of gravity closer to the face – a proven location for creating lower spin launch conditions.
Just like the G425 MAX, the G425 LST has the same shorter side to side “CG shifter” to help golfers dial in ball flight along with Ping’s proven lightweight eight-position adjustable hosel.
No further pictures of the previously spotted Ping G425 SFT yet, but considering we are seeing these drivers out on tour it is unlikely someone will have a G425SFT in play since it is designed to help fade reduction—not something many PGA Tour players struggle with.

4. Ping G440 Max: 6.86%

3. Ping G440 LST: 9.53%

@mrmikeac: “I’ve been Anti-Titleist for years and years and years (outside of Vokey, of course). With that being said, HOLY BEGEEZUS the GT3 driver is an absolute NUCLEAR MONSTER! This thing blew my G430 10K Max out of the water in every single category. Forgiveness is the biggest thing that stands out of me, the 3 model has always been one of the less forgiving models in the past but this GT3 can take bad shot after bad shot and still end up in the fairway, I think a ton of that has to do with the adjustability, it’s actually effective. Feel and sound is perfect, that solid crack is so addicting to hear and when you hit it out the screws this thing can absolutely bomb it. Titleist, I’m sorry for doubting you. You have converted me.”
