Valero Texas Open Photos

Published

on

GolfWRX is live from TPC San Antonio for the 2014 Valero Texas Open. Greg Norman collaborated with player consultant Sergio Garcia to design the AT&T Oaks Course, a par-72, 7,435-yard layout with mostly tree-lined fairways and deep, penalizing bunkers.

The field includes four of the world’s top-15 ranked players in the Official World Golf Rankings, along with a few other household names. Phil Mickelson, No. 5 in the OWGR, is back at the Texas Open for the first time in 22 years. He joins Zach Johnson (No. 10), Matt Kuchar (No. 11), 2013 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Jordan Spieth (No. 13 ), Jim Furyk (No. 24) and Ernie Els (No. 33).

Also playing this week are multiple-time PGA Tour winners in 2014, FedEx Cup points leader Jimmy Walker (three wins this season) and Patrick Reed (two wins this season), who will look to add to their winning total.

Martin Laird returns this week as the defending champion, winning last year’s event by two shots over Rory McIlroy. Laird birdied his closing three holes en route to a course record 9-under-par 63 for his third PGA Tour victory.

Photos from the 2026 PGA Championship

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
