Steve Stricker Wins John Deere Classic

Steve Stricker shot 68-64 on a 36 hole Sunday to capture his second victory of the year by three strokes over Zach Johnson, Brandt Snedeker, and Brett Quigley. Unlike earlier this year when Mr. Stricker had 54 hole leads and coughed up the lead with a bad hole or two, he hit all the shots needed to win and never looked uncomfortable even when his lead was only one stroke. After his first six holes of the final round he was 4 under par, thanks in large part to a second holed wedge for eagle of the week. His 98 yard shot on the sixth hole tied him with Zach Johnson. "That got me going," Stricker said. "I felt like … if I play well now, I should have a chance at winning."

His main competition would be from Tim Petrovic, who played all 36 holes with Mr. Stricker Sunday. Mr Petrovic was two shots back on the 36th hole of the day, but hit a shot into the water and doubled bogeyed to drop him to 16 under par and a tie for 5th with JJ Henry and Matt Jones. Mr. Stricker is now second in FedEx cup standings, merely 8 points behing leader Tiger Woods.

"This is like home for me," said Stricker, who had to be talked into playing here because he wanted to prepare for the British Open this week. "I got a lot of support this week." He lives in Madison, WI. a stones’ throw from this tournament site, (if we’re talking a small stone thrown by a really really big arm, otherwise it’s a couple hour drive), and went to the University of Illinois just south and east of Silvis. I’m sure he’s glad he came.

Mr. Quigley played well enough to qualify for The Open Championship, an invitation he will not be accepting. Instead he’ll be headed to Milwaukee for the US Bank tournament, and to Indiana to attend a memorial service for Chris Smith’s wife Beth, killed in an auto accident in which their two children were seriously injured. A tragedy I have no experience with, send condolences which can do nothing to replace such a devastating loss.

Mr. Stricker now heads to Scotland and Turnberry’s Ailsa course, a lay out he’s never played. While his preparation time has been cut short, his confidence boost should more than compensate. When playing a difficult golf course, it always helps to have confidence in the putter and off the tee. Good putters can play well anywhere. And when you rank in the top 15 in all the myriad statistics that are compiled in these days of information overload, there are no weaknesses to cloud course management preparation. I’ll be one of many cheeseheads cheering Mr. Stricker on this week, all the while paying attention to the US Bank tournament in Milwaukee, which may be making it’s final appearance ever unless a new sponser can be found for next year.

What is Lorem Ipsum?

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Why do we use it?

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

2026 PGA Championship betting odds

Scottie Scheffler leads the betting ahead of the second major championship of the year, with the World Number One a +345 favorite to get his hands on a second PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy who won the Masters back in April is a +800 shot to complete half of the calendar slam at Aronimink Golf Club this week, while Jordan Spieth can be backed at +5900 to become a career grand slam winner.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
