Tiger Woods announces he’s out of the U.S. Open

Tiger Woods won’t be teeing it up at the U.S. Open June 12.

In a statement released through his website this evening, the golfer said:

“Unfortunately, I won’t be there because I’m not yet physically able to play competitive golf. I’d like to convey my regrets to the USGA leadership, the volunteers and the fans that I won’t be at Pinehurst. The U.S. Open is very important to me, and I know it’s going to be a great week. Despite missing the first two majors, and several other important tournaments, I remain very optimistic about this year and my future.”

This will be Woods’ second consecutive missed major start as he wasn’t able to tee it up for the Masters following back surgery March 31.

Woods hasn’t played a competitive round since the WGC-Cadillac Championship at the beginning of March after getting off to one of the worse stats of his professional career, including an extremely poor showing at his personal playground, Torrey Pines.

The news is not unexpected since he indicated just last week that he wasn’t yet able to take full swings and was merely chipping and putting.

Whether the former world No. 1 will be able to return to competition before the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool (which begins July 17) remains to be seen.

I’m not a Tiger fan but I have to admit tournaments just don’t have that same buzz with out him. I guess it will be good when he gets back.

Not a surprise. Majors are better when Tiger’s in the hunt…but wiht the way they set up the US open and the way he’s driven the ball the last five years…..doubt he’d be near the lead anyway.

Well, we all know this was coming. Lets hope that Adam, RORS, Phil or some other big names make it interesting. The longer he is away the tougher it will be on him the rest of the year. I dont see in majors this year out of tiger.

    Come on man that’s a bit harsh. You got to admit the majors are more interesting now without tiger. At leat we don’t get the “tigers going to win the next three majors” other players have upped their game, there is no tiger fear anymore, roll on!

  Why are there so many haters. He is the greatest golfer in the last 30 years. Don’t understand it. I want all the best players to be there. I guess it’s like everyone hating the Yankees for being the greatest sports organization in the history of sports. Stop drinking the hatorade.

    The year 2000 was the best year as a spectator I can recall. He’s the greatest I’ve ever seen and hope he makes it back fully recovered and ready to take on the final 4 majors. I root for him because I respect the work ethic and the pursuit of greatness. He’s also the most entertaining golfer I’ve ever watched. The excitement in the broadcasts this year has really dropped a bit. I just want him in the mix again.

    It’s funny to read the comments from those who don’t like him. I for one wouldn’t want him around my daughters, but I do enjoy watching him stripe the ball.

WITB Time Machine: Phil Mickelson’s winning WITB, 2021 PGA Championship

Phil Mickelson made history at the 2021 PGA Championship on Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course. At 50, he became the oldest player to win a major, breaking Julius Boros’s record. Starting the final round with a slim lead, Lefty faced tough competition from Brooks Koepka and Louis Oosthuizen. He pulled ahead with key birdies and a standout 366-yard drive on the 16th hole. Finishing 6 under par and two shots ahead, Mickelson claimed his sixth major and second PGA Championship. Many saw his win as an inspiring comeback, showing that experience and determination can still lead to victory in professional golf — and, sometimes, age is just a number.

2026 PGA Championship betting odds

Scottie Scheffler leads the betting ahead of the second major championship of the year, with the World Number One a +345 favorite to get his hands on a second PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy who won the Masters back in April is a +800 shot to complete half of the calendar slam at Aronimink Golf Club this week, while Jordan Spieth can be backed at +5900 to become a career grand slam winner.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.
