Sergio Garcia shot a second-round 68 to take the lead heading into the weekend at The Barclays with Nick Watney at 8-under par at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y.

Garcia won the rain-delayed Wyndham Championship on Monday to clinch a spot on the 2012 European Ryder Cup team, and is looking to secure his first FedExCup Playoff victory.

Tiger Woods gave the golf world a scare on Friday, battling pain in his lower back in his warm-up session and throughout the round. Woods blamed the pain on a soft hotel mattress, and said that he will be ready for action in round 3.

“Well, there’s a difference between being in pain and injured,” Woods said in his post-round interview. “This is just a little bit of pain.”

Despite Woods’ ginger movements, grimaces and difficulty picking up his tees, he fought back from opening back-to-back bogeys to card a 2-under 68. He’s at 5-under with Rickie Fowler and John Huh, three back of the lead.

Also close to the lead are Vijay Singh and Bob Estates at 7-under and John Senden and Pat Perez and 6-under.
