FTF: What’s the best on-course meltdown you’ve ever seen?

Published

on

The GolfWRX forums exist so golfers have access to the latest equipment releases, hottest discussions, real equipment reviews, best instruction, new technologies and everything golf you can imagine.

So if you love golf, the GolfWRX forums are your sanctuary.

In the From the Forums weekly feature, we bring you the hottest, most buzz-worthy topics from our forums for your convenience. I’ll be your trusty tour guide to navigate the latest buzz.

Here’s a peek behind the curtain into golf’s sanctuary.

Is Brandel Chamblee the Skip Bayless of golf?

BrandelChambleeDebates

After Rory McIlroy’s comments regarding Olympic golf, the golf media’s most outspoken talking head, Brandel Chamblee, predictably laid into the Ulsterman on the Golf Channel. Chamblee, of course, has built a reputation for incendiary takes and a “pull no punches” approach to assessing professional golfers. User ShooterMcGavin311, for one, was bothered by Chamblee’s remarks, saying that the Golf Channel staffer’s bitterness ruins broadcasts.

Another WRXer asked if Chamblee is golf’s answer to ESPN’s bombastic and often controversial Skip Bayless? Far from being a mere Chamblee-bashing session, this thread presents a solid discussion of the golf media space.

“I hate golf!”

MudBallGolf

We can all sympathize with the sentiment voiced in a lengthy post-round confession by user LeftDaddy. He writes in part, “I played today for the 1st time in a couple of weeks, but have been playing quite a bit this year. I started well, but ended up with a horrible round. I thought back and realized that I just frittered away 14 strokes…not because of golf “talent” per se, but just because of silly mistakes or easy shots that I missed (and I didn’t make ANYTHING with the putter even though I was hitting my lines and speeds but just burned edges).”

LD went on to say that he feels like a game he’s invested a substantial amount of time and money in hasn’t offered up much in return and that he’d quit in the past…unsuccessfully. Other WRXers commiserate and share their tales of woe, musings on the nature of this maddening game in this first-rate discussion.

How close have you come to a hole-in-one?

FowlerHoleInOne

Here’s a fun thread, and one that gets at another type of golfing misery: nearly making a hole-in-one.

The fabulously named Spankopotamus writes, “Last weekend, I came as close to a hole in one as possible without getting one. 138 yard par 3, 7-iron, hit the pin right at the top of the cup. The ball hit and ricocheted completely off the green and I ended up with a bogey.”

Not sure what he did to offend the golf gods, but that’s tough. If you have a better story or want to see what other members have shared: See the thread.

The best on-course meltdown you’ve ever seen?

Rory_McIlroy_has_a_cow_throws_club_in_lake

Saving the best for last this week. DTXgolfer asks:  “Anyone have some stories to share about golfers throwing temper tantrums?” And boy, do the forum faithful ever. The stories in this thread are so fabulous, so outlandish, so frighteningly hilarious, that we’re not going to excerpt anything here. Just click through. Seriously. But watch out for Crazy Bill.
