Think you’re a good putter? Here’s how to win $155K on a putting green in Vegas

Go ahead and file the Major Series of Putting under “great excuses to go to Las Vegas.” And you can win some serious money, too.

The Major Series of Putting takes place in Las Vegas from March 10-19, and consists of a series of different putting tournaments including singles stroke play, match play, amateur, ladies-only, professionals-only and team events. Prizes range from $24,000 to $155,000, so it’s certainly worth the time spent away from the blackjack table or roulette wheel.

There’s two ways to get a spot in one of the tournaments:

  1. Buy your way in (entry fees are between $350 and $5000, depending on the event).
  2. Earn your spot in a local qualifier.

The series isn’t held at a random putting green or mini golf course, either. It’s located at a venue built adjacent to Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino where there will be stadium seating, live leaderboards, a sports bar, a restaurant, and a course specially designed by the Jack Nicklaus Design team.

“Designing the official 18-hole putting course for MSOP presented unique challenges and opportunities for Nicklaus Design,” said David Savic, design associate at Nicklaus Design. “This is the first artificial 18-hole course we have designed strictly for putting.”

Reading grain probably won’t be a factor, as the course surfaces are made from Southwest Greens’ Golden Bear line of turf.

“Installing our PRO System on the MSOP stadium course will provide the participants world-class performance that our customers have become accustomed to expect,” said Kevin Holinaty, president of Southwest Greens Construction. “We are proud to be a part of such an ambitious undertaking. Working alongside Nicklaus Design allows us to build a unique design concept within a stadium setting – something definitely not seen before.”

The Major Series of Putting does not abide by the USGA rules in that anchored putting IS allowed, but participants must be at least 21 years old to enter.

He played on the Hawaii Pacific University Men's Golf team and earned a Masters degree in Communications. He also played college golf at Rutgers University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.
